We Are Diamonds

When we first see a diamond, we are often dazzled by it’s beauty and the 4 C’s - cut, color, clarity and carats, in which the quality is measured.

The carat weight measures the size of the diamond. Of all the 4 C's, cut is the characteristic directly influenced by man; color, clarity and carat weight are all dictated by nature.

But for all of it’s beauty, a diamond has to go through many nips and tucks just to catch the eye of the beholder. When you see the before and after pictures, you may never even want a diamond, but it’s what happens in the operating room that makes diamonds the apple of our eye.

When we think about a diamond's journey to earth, we may be surprised at our similarities with them. A diamond starts from unrefined coal - carbon that is formed more than 100 miles below the surface of the Earth; some from perhaps 400 miles down.

A diamond goes through excavation, processing, handling, pounding, refinement and shine - just like us. Before it is given life, it goes through many pints of blood, quarts of sweat and gallons of tears. In fact, the lure of a diamond is so tremendous that a person is more likely to kill over a diamond than they are to protect their own children.

Each day as we are tested to stand our ground and to withstand the slings and arrows of outrageous ego, we are grinding down the coal and shining ourselves into diamonds.

Each time, we decide to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them, we are grinding down the coal and shining ourselves into diamond.

Each experience that takes us to what we think is the point to no return, we are grinding down the coal and shining ourselves into diamond.

The way the atoms are arranged in a diamond make them tighter than any other substance. The bonds are formed when carbon exists at very high temperatures and very high pressure.

When we are under pressure, though we think we will never survive, we do get through it. We are designed to survive the toughest pressure.

A diamond will not dissolve in acid, neither will our spirit.

Diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance, and is also one of the most valuable natural substances. Because of this, the diamond is the most enduring of all gemstones - like Soul.

Transparency is highly desirable in diamonds, and when they are nearly as transparent as water, they are known as diamonds of the first water. As the transparency decreases, we get second or third water. Hence figuratively, something or someone of the first water is first grade, first class, or of the best in its class.

While it's not good to be transparent, it is good to be first water. When we are acting in true spirit, thus emanating love fully from our hearts, we are first water.

We are no more than coal shining ourselves into diamonds, every second of everyday. We are shining ourselves into our Soul. We we are at our best, our Soul is shining through.

Our DNA makes us part of carbon that comes from the mantel of the Earth and the bodies and shells of microorganisms in ancient oceans. This organic carbon was buried in rocks that was dragged down into the mantle because of plate tectonics and continental drift.

All life forms on Earth are carbon based, so technically if we were to fall into the ocean near a tectonic plate where rocks were being dragged underneath, in a million years we could come back as diamonds - but why wait? We ARE diamonds NOW.

Perfect! Beautiful!

We are! We are!

Shining, luminescent, radiant... sent to bring light and beauty to the world.

Thank you so much for these spectacular words sister of mine,

What a true and touching post. Nobody says it like you do, Alexys!
I always think that, even with our enemies, how amazing that we are born in the same time frame, that we are able to meet and even fight. That surely should instill some sentimentality.

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend but I think we guys get a better deal with dogs…
:)

Interesting, another comment about dogs LOL

I love this post!! I agree with you. This actually lifted my spirits!

narissa,  2/23/2008 4:58 AM

what metaphor. truly, we can be diamonds, a representation of someone who had undergone the many 'processes' in life to give out that unequaled sparkle.

Alexys Fairfield 2/23/2008 5:33 PM

Maithri,
We most definitely are! Thank you for being among the brightest and shiniest. :D

Shiny love to you my friend.

Uber,
Thank you for those generous words. Very well said my friend. Hold our friends close and our enemies even closer.

Alexys Fairfield 2/23/2008 5:51 PM

LS,
I prefer people as friends, not diamonds - they can be a little cold.

Alexys Fairfield 2/23/2008 5:53 PM

Hi Mimi,
Oh, I am so happy that I could lift your spirits today. Thanks for dropping by, I hope to see you again soon.

Alexys Fairfield 2/23/2008 6:03 PM

Narissa,
It's true, we are diamonds. Look how far we have come? I think part of the process of sparkling is gratitude. We have to be grateful for the good and bad.

Dear Alexys,

An amazing post like this makes a person smile :).
This week I am full of things to do, but I couldn't let it slide without leaving a few words to one of my favourite girls :D!

"Of all the 4 C's, cut is the characteristic directly influenced by man; color, clarity and carat weight are all dictated by nature." - this can be compared to humans, the cut (when they submit to plastic surgery) is influenced by man; and nature takes care of our colour, clarity and carat weight ;D!

"nips and tucks" this made me think of that TV show "Nip Tuck"...do you watch it?
This section of your post, reminded me of "total make-over" people who are a true diamond go through nips and tucks just to "catch the eye" of those who didn't look at them before *nodding*. But those who only look at accomodated, comissioned external signs of beauty aren't even worthy of the carbon diamonds...know what I mean?

Brilliant comparison "Before it is given life, it goes through many pints of blood, quarts of sweats and gallons of tears"....beautifully true *bowing*! That is why every single human being has an unmeasurable value :).
True again, people kill over rocks, but won't do the same to protect their own children...so sad *nodding*...

"When we are under pressure, though we think we will never survive, we do get through it. We are designed to survive the toughest pressure" ...absolutely!!! And that is the very beauty of being human! I love being human, I love our strength. I admire our fighting abilities, our endurance...God blew so much of Himself into our nostrils, Blessed be Him!

"A diamond will not dissolve in acid, neither will our spirit" - Amen!

Yes, we are diamonds now! :)

Cartier Cheers

That is a classic. Da Vinci was without a doubt a genius.

Thanks for sharing yourself here today.

All shucks. BOL (Blushing Out Loud)

"...this can be compared to humans, the cut (when they submit to plastic surgery) is influenced by man; and nature takes care of our colour, clarity and carat weight ;D!"

Absolutely brilliant my dear! Kudos! Applause! Encore!

"Nip Tuck"...do you watch it?"
Religiously. I loved the first 4 seasons, but this past season (which ended last week over here) was atrocious. Badly written. No real stories like previous seasons. I especially love the music they played while operating.

Again that is well said. I know exactly what you mean.

What a fascinating perspective! I find it surprising that the quest for extra-terrestrial life by human beings is carbon-based like what we're made of. Ask yourself why investigations funded by government and agencies are only based on what they think they know. We can evolve differently.

Alexys Fairfield 2/27/2008 11:35 AM

Liara,
What a fascinating comment!

We can evolve differently if we dare to push beyond convention. We have to scratch beneath the surface and not be afraid of what we find. There is a little extra-terrestrial in everyone.

In the U.S., the government claims that it has no knowledge of aliens, when Title 14, section 1211 of the Code of Federal Regulations, implemented on July 16, 1969, make it illegal for U.S. citizens to have any contact with extra-terrestrials or their vehicles?

But it doesn't say anything about contact with their "spirits." ;D

Max 2/27/2008 11:54 AM

Alexys,

"All shucks. BOL (Blushing Out Loud)" - lol BOL that is so sweet :)....

"Absolutely brilliant my dear! Kudos! Applause! Encore!" - thank you, thank you *bowing*!!! You are a lovely audience ;D...

"Religiously. I loved the first 4 seasons, but this past season (which ended last week over here) was atrocious. Badly written. No real stories like previous seasons. I especially love the music they played while operating." - yeah, their music rocked. It is still on, here in Portugal, I think it is the 4th season...I don't watch them all nowadays (but I did the 3 previous ones)...Christian Troy is a gorgeous name, but the character puzzles me a bit (although I like him): he is the sensitive bastard *nodding*...
So, the last is badly written, huh? What a shame...did Troy keep his son?

"Again that is well said. I know exactly what you mean." - thanks, I knew you would understand :D...

"The breath of life indeed." - with a vast panoply of its mysteries :)...

Boucheron Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 2/27/2008 5:15 PM

Max,
"I think it is the 4th season"

That's when it started going down. Ridiculous story lines, etc.

"Christian Troy is a gorgeous name, but the character puzzles me a bit (although I like him): he is the sensitive bastard *nodding*..."

Ha ha. I don't know about the sensitive part. He is beautifully sculpted isn't he? Can't believe he is an Aussie. I don't detect any accent. Even his real name is beautiful (Juilian.) His character is interesting though; he has no redeeming characteristics. He was abused, abandoned, he sold his girlfriend for a Lamborghini, he dated a sex addict and kept her baby from another man, he is the father of Matt (I can't stand Matt) etc. I think Mrs. Grubman is such a great character. Did you see when she wanted him for the night. (It was so touching) Another good character is Dr. Bobolit. (I have a post in my notes on the show. I haven't edited it yet.)

"...did Troy keep his son?"

No, the kid went with the father, but I didn't see all of season four because in the beginning of season five, Wilbur (the son) is back, then he disappears.

Nip/Tuck & DeBeers Cheers

I am glad that I could make you smile. Hopefully you will have other special moments with or without diamonds.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the link too.

Alexys,

"That's when it started going down. Ridiculous story lines, etc." - lol you are so right...that is why I stopped following it *nodding*. Sean's life is messed up, he's drinking...his twisted son (don't even know what happened to his/Christian's Matt), his wife..oh well. But the worse is Christian's wife/fiancé and her madame *nodding*...

"He is beautifully sculpted isn't he?" - oh yes...I must agree with you on that one lol...

"Can't believe he is an Aussie. I don't detect any accent. Even his real name is beautiful (Juilian.)" - he is a pretty good actor! I would never think him to be an Aussie either...cause Dr. House/Hugh Laurie lets his British accent slide every now and then lol...Julian is a beautiful name indeed...let me tell you, the man was blessed from head to toe lol....

"His character is interesting though; he has no redeeming characteristics. He was abused, abandoned, he sold his girlfriend for a Lamborghini, he dated a sex addict and kept her baby from another man, he is the father of Matt (I can't stand Matt) etc." - Matt is twisted, girl! I don't like him either, besides he has an odd face (lips are off-beat maybe?). Troy has these characteristics that made him into a bastard, but there is this sensitive side to him (when he is with Wilbur), so cute...

"I think Mrs. Grubman is such a great character. Did you see when she wanted him for the night. (It was so touching) Another good character is Dr. Bobolit. (I have a post in my notes on the show. I haven't edited it yet.)" - Mrs Grubman...refresh my memory, please! LOL oh you have notes on the show...oh my you were a fan lol.

"No, the kid went with the father, but I didn't see all of season four because in the beginning of season five, Wilbur (the son) is back, then he disappears." - I must beg your pardon, darling...I misled you; then the season that is presently on here in Portugal is the last one cause Wilbur is already living with Christian and his (ex-prostitute) fiancé/wife...he will disappear again? Poor Troy lol...Sean's wife cheated on him with a midget...

Max,
"Sean's life is messed up, he's drinking...his twisted son (don't even know what happened to his/Christian's Matt), his wife..oh well. But the worse is Christian's wife/fiancé and her madame."

Sean is slowly becoming like Christian. The writers keep toying with us. They have both gone through so much with women and each other, but I think they love each other more than women. Remember when Christian fantasized about being with Sean? (They didn't go there though)

"Dr. House/Hugh Laurie lets his British accent slide every now and then."

I don't watch House. It looks so insipid. Did you know Hugh Laurie was a comic actor in England?

Christian is a great piece of eye candy, but I couldn't be with anyone so soulless. Did you see the one where he had the woman put a paper bag over her head and had his way with her? (with her permission because she had no self-esteem) (sad)

"Matt is twisted, girl! I don't like him either, besides he has an odd face (lips are off-beat maybe?)

Ha ha ha ha. He looks like a ventriloquist dummy with those rosy cheeks and lipstick. I have a problem with 35 year olds being passed off as 17 year olds.

"Mrs Grubman...refresh my memory."

She was a woman in her 60's who got a nip/tuck every week. (She looked like it too.) She was lonely and she wanted Christian - like everyone else. One night she paid him to 'keep her company' and they wound up holding each other because she was so lonely. Poignant.

"Wilbur is already living with Christian and his (ex-prostitute) fiancé/wife...he will disappear again?"

I think that is the third season when Christian is with Gina. It gets better. That's a good season.

Have a great weekend and experience great love today my dear.

Harry Winston Cheers

Alexys,

"Sean is slowly becoming like Christian. The writers keep toying with us. They have both gone through so much with women and each other, but I think they love each other more than women. Remember when Christian fantasized about being with Sean? (They didn't go there though)" - yes, I do...interestingly enough the writers suggested that men may fantasize with their best mates, that the idea actually crosses their mind (this reminded me of a book: The Naked Ape by Desmond Morris...have you ever read it?)...

"I don't watch House. It looks so insipid. Did you know Hugh Laurie was a comic actor in England?" - lol yes, of course...Hugh Laurie is very well known here in Europe. You don't watch House? No, I don't find it insipid...the House character is rather interesting (extremely cultivated, intelligent, travelled, cold, arrogant [to hide his sensibility, his goodness], apparently disloyal [to hide his loyalty], divisive yet unifying...he is a walking dichotomy lol...

"Christian is a great piece of eye candy, but I couldn't be with anyone so soulless. Did you see the one where he had the woman put a paper bag over her head and had his way with her? (with her permission because she had no self-esteem) (sad)" - that episode was terrible, and in the end she was crying of happiness (yet he thought she was crying out of humiliation) *nodding*! Yeah, I wouldn't be with him either...too promiscuous for my own taste...

"Ha ha ha ha. He looks like a ventriloquist dummy with those rosy cheeks and lipstick. I have a problem with 35 year olds being passed off as 17 year olds." - LOL like Luke Perry in "Beverly Hills 91...[something]" *nodding*...

"She was a woman in her 60's who got a nip/tuck every week. (She looked like it too.) She was lonely and she wanted Christian - like everyone else. One night she paid him to 'keep her company' and they wound up holding each other because she was so lonely. Poignant." - Aaah, yes; now I remember her! Yeah, that scene was endearing actually...that is why I find Troy a sensitive bastard (cause he has these fits if sensitiveness, as if he remembered his mom for a second and decided to be gentle to women as an homage to her). Do you remember that episode when he found out that Matt's girlfriend was a transexual? I laughed like crazy...

"I think that is the third season when Christian is with Gina. It gets better. That's a good season." - Her name is Gina too (I thought Gina was Wilbur's mom)? The black ex-prostitute (whose madame is played by Jacqueline Bisset)?

"Have a great weekend and experience great love today my dear." - thank you, darling...Have a blessed weekend yourself :D! Great love is experienced everyday :D! May the Light be with you....

Bulgari Cheers

Max,
"...the writers suggested that men may fantasize with their best mates, that the idea actually crosses their mind (this reminded me of a book: The Naked Ape by Desmond Morris...have you ever read it?)..."

I haven't read that one, but I did read Man Watching by him. It spoke of gestures and ways we communicate.

I haven't seen House, but because you think so highly of it, I will try to see at least one episode. I am not really a TV fan,
only certain shows.

"Luke Perry in "Beverly Hills 91...[something]" *nodding*..."

Yeah. Luke Perry on Beverly Hills 90210. He was an old "high school" student.

"Do you remember that episode when he found out that Matt's girlfriend was a transexual? I laughed like crazy."

LOL! LOL! LOL! I loved it. I thought the casting of Famke Jensen was perfect. And she/he was a life couch. LOL! Did you know the actor who plays Matt was dating the actor who plays his mother?

"Her name is Gina too (I thought Gina was Wilbur's mom)? The black ex-prostitute (whose madame is played by Jacqueline Bisset)?"

Oops you're right. I misread it. You are on the 4th season then. I only saw half of that season. The 5th season is really bad if you see it.

May the love force be with you my dear.

Crown Jewels Cheers

Max 3/03/2008 10:38 AM

Alexys,

"I haven't read that one, but I did read Man Watching by him. It spoke of gestures and ways we communicate." - I haven't read that one; but it sounds interesting...I am going to look for it! In the Naked Apes he suggests that men have homosexual tendencies...

"I haven't seen House, but because you think so highly of it, I will try to see at least one episode. I am not really a TV fan,
only certain shows." - lol...it is only because he is an interesting human specimen (worthy of analysis). I confess that I am a TV fan, although I don't have the time watch it as much as I did before.

"Yeah. Luke Perry on Beverly Hills 90210. He was an old "high school" student." - lol indeed he was...

"LOL! LOL! LOL! I loved it. I thought the casting of Famke Jensen was perfect. And she/he was a life couch. LOL! Did you know the actor who plays Matt was dating the actor who plays his mother?" - you're joking...he was? The lady didn't have good taste lol...but there again love knows no discrimination. Yeah, the trans was Matt's life coach; it was hilarious when Christian, Sean and Julia were shocked cause Matt hadn't noticed that she was a he *nodding*...

"Oops you're right. I misread it. You are on the 4th season then. I only saw half of that season. The 5th season is really bad if you see it." - oh my, if the 5th is really bad I think I will only watch one episode LOL....

"May the love force be with you my dear." - Amen :D. Have a great week ahead :)!

Mauboussin Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 3/03/2008 3:42 PM

Max,
"In the Naked Apes he suggests that men have homosexual tendencies."

Do you think its true? I have heard it, but I thought it was more of an urban legend. I can't say that I have actually seen or heard it other than in films. We will leave that one for the men. Oh wait, when it comes to sports, I can really see this. Men love watching other men play. Whether they want to play with them is another story. ;D (laughing at own humor.)

Since you like TV. One show I really like is Weeds. OMG, it is so well written and very funny. It's about a suburban housewife who sells weed. As someone who doesn't indulge in that, I find it really interesting to watch.

"Yeah, the trans was Matt's life coach; it was hilarious when Christian, Sean and Julia were shocked cause Matt hadn't noticed that she was a he *nodding*."

That was one of my favorite episodes.

"...if the 5th is really bad I think I will only watch one episode LOL."

That's what I thought because I kept thinking that it would get better, but just for your edification, watch what you can.

Sending you blessing for a fantastic week.

I would say it is true for homophobics though *nodding*...

"Since you like TV. One show I really like is Weeds. OMG, it is so well written and very funny. It's about a suburban housewife who sells weed. As someone who doesn't indulge in that, I find it really interesting to watch." - I like that show...it is a pitty that I only saw a few episodes of it (a selection had to be made, and not all of them can be recorded...). I don't indulge in weed either, but the concept of a mom selling it to feed her kids and keep an official business (bakery, I believe) as a cover up; it's simply brilliant!!! And the dialogues are very well written indeed (I liked her brother-in-law).

"That's what I thought because I kept thinking that it would get better, but just for your edification, watch what you can." - I will, girl :)...

"Sending you blessing for a fantastic week." - thank you so much, dear :D! Can you feel the vibes (they are yellowish so that your brain produces more and more wonderful words)?

Andy is a great character. He plays a loser very well. He is little like Christian Troy. Has no remorse for his actions. He had "internet-course" with his nephew's deaf girlfriend. He took his younger nephew (10) to a prostitute....lots of stuff. All great characters on the show. Definitely worth catching when you can.
