14 Reasons Why Bad News Is Bad For You

Television is a seemingly harmless marvel. It wakes us, entertains us, shouts at us in surround sound during commercials and puts us to sleep after a long day.

Somewhere in between viewing its contents, we wind up watching television news. While it’s natural to want to know what’s going on in the world, the effects of what we see on television often leaves our mental TiVo on pause.

Have you ever watched the evening news and felt like your insides have been completely drained? That’s what I call, 'TNS' or the Television News Syndrome.

We watch it to be informed and end up being infused with fear, doubt, negativity and everything that is bad about life - and that’s not good.

I’ve come up with 14 reasons why bad news is bad for us in hopes to make you more aware of what you are taking into your consciousness when you surrender your mind to television news.

1. Instillation - not to be confused with installation. To instill is to introduce gradually through persistent efforts as in to instill goodness, conscience, etc. Installation applies to machinery placed in position for connection.

My biggest problem with television news is the instillation of fear. The more fear that it instills, the more fear that is installed on our spiritual hard drive, taking up unnecessary room and making our thought system run slower.

2. Perpetuation Of Fear - it’s not enough to instill fear, they have to keep hammering it into our skulls, drilling it into our heads, plastering it all over our Souls.

3. Fear Specifics Or,“The Crisis-Crisis” - to television news reporters, the word, “crisis” is gold. Off the top of my head, there is a housing crisis, economy crisis, wall street crisis, oil crisis, water crisis, electricity crisis, health care crisis, food crisis, blood crisis, budget crisis and the crisis-crisis. For crisis sake - - enough about crises.

4. Possibilities - I have been hearing the story of Africanized killer bees for at least 20 years. When can I remove my bee keeper outfit? It’s getting really itchy under here.

I want to know if there is a recall on the food that I am consuming, food I would feed a child or animal, cars that I drive, medication, children’s toys, furniture and clothing; real dangers, not “possibilities of fatalities” because a bee may chase me one day in the future and jam its stinger into my skin.

5. Probabilities - people don’t hear the word “possible” they hear probable which translates into doom.

6. Strike That From The Record - when news is reported erroneously, (often times) it is standard to have a retraction. In print, the retraction is always on the last page - in the corner - at the bottom - where people won’t see it. On television news, a retraction is almost said in passing (by that time our mind has already stored the information it gathered when the story was first reported.)

7. The Old Sleight Of Hand
- now you see it, now you don’t. Red wine is good for us and red wine is bad for us. Chocolate is beneficial to our health and chocolate can kill us. Which is it? That which gives life also gives death. What are we to believe?

8. In Between The Li(n)es
- the first glass of wine relaxes blood vessels, reducing the heart’s work, thus lowering the risk of heart disease. Here’s the kicker. Researchers found that more than one glass of wine increased heart rate, the risk of high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and heart failure.

9. What They Don’t Tell You - Certain types of wine are much better than other wines. Researchers studied exactly what substances in wine could change blood vessel function and studies are funded by the red wine industry.

They studied areas where people were living longer and drinking wine and discovered that wines in those areas were richer in procyanidin, which is a flavanoid polyphenol, otherwise known as antioxidants.

You see, the study only takes in a small portion of people and the results don't apply to everyone. Some of the nutritional advice being pushed on the general public is actually not based on fact.

The notion that red wine keeps us healthy comes from something called the French Paradox. Scientists noticed that despite a diet loaded with saturated fat, very few French people actually die from heart attacks, but that is based on the region where they reside.

Studies have shown that people who drink without food are more likely to have high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases your risk of heart disease and it increases the risk of a stroke.

10. The Drain And Fill -
drains you of all of your positive images and fills you with negative images that permeate your mind, body and Soul in a C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigation) way.

11. Visual Anesthesiology
- puts us out of touch with our sensitivity and genuine compassion for others. An anesthetic is an agent that causes loss of sensation with or without the loss of consciousness. From the Greek word, anaisth-e-tos, meaning without feeling. A visual anesthetic causes a total loss of consciousness. You are force fed something that’s difficult to digest and thus it sits there on your consciousness.

12. Breaking And Entering - what we watch on television news robs us of any faith and hope we have in humanity. It breaks our spirits, enters our hearts and overwhelms us. It repeatedly tells us everything that is wrong with life and how we are doomed.

13. Robs Us Blind
- it robs us of our ability to think for ourselves and and to see further into to how to improve our human condition. We watch as the blind lead the blind until we are all blind.

14. Lack Of The Feel-good Factor - when was the last time you watched the news and felt good? The television news is not in the business to make you feel good, it is up to you. I want you to feel good about life, people, experiences. I can’t ask you to stop watching the news, but I can suggest the portion. My rule of thumb is to skip the first ten minutes of any newscast. That's where they usually serve the worst parts. While bad news is bad for you, if you find enough good pieces, you can rewrite the news and that’s what can enhance your life.

I agree with everything you've said. Many times when I feel myself getting so negative, so depressed, so fearful, so bitchy and very lazy I can usually "blame" it on all the news I've been watching. Once I stop watching it, focus more on the positive parts of life, read my inspiration books, then I snap out of it and actually begin to "live" again.
Thanks for reminding "once again" to turn off the news.

Ajeya 3/26/2008 8:47 PM

so true. the news is so full of crap everyday. what about all the good stuff that happens in the world??!?! but it's a difficult one alexys. they make news that way because it sells. clearly there's an audience for this negative bombardment that we get from the news. personally, i'd prefer a more balanced approach with more good news. families getting back together, people from warring countries taking the initiative to make peace... stuff like that. that would make me watch the news.

UBERMOUTH 3/26/2008 10:16 PM

I am involved in a property lawsuit which will likley make the news, so I agree -bad, bad, bad- having said that-
Mr DeMille- I'm ready for my close-up.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 1:19 AM

Ellen,
Isn't it awful? All of that negative energy and all we have to do is turn the TV off.

Wishing you happy positivity.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 1:25 AM

Ajeya,
I know it's seemingly difficult. We have to be in the world, not of it. It's true that blood and guts sells and it's so unfortunate that it does. We have to rid ourselves of the debris that they keep throwing our way and immerse ourselves in our own balance so that we may take balance into the world.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 1:28 AM

Uber,
I can relate. Anytime you get lawyers involved, it is not pretty. What do you call 350 lawyers in the bottom of the sea - a good start!

veryheaven ouverture 3/27/2008 5:40 AM

dear soullady,
it´s time to erase the negative around us - by ignoring. vvhat do you mean? **
i´d like to get connected to you and exchange ideas and vvise ideas - e.g. via BC - vvould you like to? vvould be my pleasure. veryheavenly greetings from germany ;-)

surface earth,  3/27/2008 7:16 AM

Oh boy! I agree, I agree, I agree. I often suffer from the syndrome you described, it can make you feel so heavy and the energy around you drags you down further! I often have to keep the t.v. off, I even have to keep myself from checking the news online (the minute I typed that I got an urge to do just that, to check the news!)

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 9:54 AM

Veryheaveanly,
Negativity is harmful on many levels, but on another level, it can teach us to stay positive.

I am always open to exchanging ideas. :D

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 9:57 AM

S.E.,
Glad that you can see what I mean. Sometimes negativity swirls in the atmosphere looking for somewhere to stick. I think radio news is better because it gives you only the facts and you don't have to see pictures.

Maithri 3/27/2008 10:15 AM

Great post dear friend,

Ellen Degeneris says...They really should just call it "Things are gettin worse"

We need to balance information and awareness of the problems in the world, with constructive ways of changing things...

It doesnt mean we should lock ourselves up in a fantasy world...but I'd like to see a news program where for every segment about negativity...they showed a little piece on how to help that particular person or situation...

We need to become solution oriented.

That is the only way change will occur.

Sending you love on this day where the sky has gone wild with love,

Maithri

Pythia3 3/27/2008 1:07 PM

Hip Hip....Horray!!!!!!!
You said it! WOW! I need to come back and revisit this post - this is FANTASTIC! I fast from the news often - just can't take the constant barrage of negativity, hopelessness, advertising, etc.
I just wrote a post about BIG hair and better times - a tongue-in-cheek sort of thing but anything to take our thoughts off the bad-news-blues.
:) BRAVO

CastoCreations 3/27/2008 1:11 PM

BRILLIANT!!!

I completely agree. I hate the news and if it is on when I get home from work I ask for it to be changed. The only thing we try to catch occasionally is the weather and the internet usually gives us that.

It's not that I don't want to know what's going on but the news only gives me a small sliver of what is going on in the world. The internet has SO much more information - both good, bad, and in between. From all different sorts of sources and without the filters of the news editors. Thank God for the internet! :)

Liara Covert 3/27/2008 2:41 PM

ople have no idea the real impact tv has on their psych, their perception and their lives. One good test is to give it up and evolve to discern how your view of the world and yourself changes.

The Nostalgia Fairy 3/27/2008 4:08 PM

My goodness me,
Everything you have said in this post is EXACTLY what I said to my family tonight after watching the depressing local news programme yet again. The awful stories featured would have us believe that there is a villain around every corner, human nature is beyond the pale and life is doomed. Why, oh why can't the news feature all of the good things that happen in the world? but as the saying goes, NO news is good news. I HATE the news but my husband likes to stay informed!
Sorry I'm ranting but your post really struck a chord with me. Switch off the news and be happy!!!!!!

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 4:18 PM

Maithri,
I like Ellen's quote. Of course balance is the key to anything. If we want to change our world, we have to change ourselves. Just look at the Monks in China. I would like to see a Good News show. All good - all the time. We know life is full of good and bad, but we don't have to focus on all the bad.

Today a skywriter made a heart in the sky and wrote your name in the middle of it.

Peace my friend.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 4:25 PM

Lindy,
Thanks for that cool cheer! It's always nice to hear that I am not alone in my perception. Everyone has offered such good support. It would be more palatable if they just read the news - no pictures - no inflection - no opinion. (Reporters are not even objective these days)

I failed to mention all the ads. They are too much. Even the ads have gotten to be negative; aside from political ads - just some normal ads have a meanspiritedness to them.

Peace my friend.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 4:29 PM

Hello CastoCreations,
Thank you.

I am so with you on the internet - thank God for it. At least we can control what information we ingest and not have it blasted through our TV's, leaving shrapnel in our Souls.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 4:33 PM

Liara,
I agree. They have no idea of the deep impact TV has on them. I know people who have TV's in every room - even the bathroom - and they don't turn them off.

I would easily pass that test. I gave up on TV long ago and I used to watch it only for the news, now that will be a thing of the past.

Alexys Fairfield 3/27/2008 5:53 PM

Sandi,
I think there is a happy medium. We can stay informed but only watch the news in small doses. It's the continual banging of those images into our heads that I oppose. They will say on a story for what seems like hours. In California we have lots of wild fires and car chases. It's almost a given that one or both of them will be shown daily.

Thanks for stopping by and stay happy.

Robert 3/27/2008 6:30 PM

I have to agree..if you took to heart every doom and gloom thing you have seen on there.. the world would have neded in 1956

Max 3/28/2008 8:45 AM

Hello B-day Girl!!!

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Alexys!!
Happy Birthday to you *clap clap clap*! :D

How are you feeling today, darling?

I have a surprise for you...not now, only later....

----------------------------------------------------------

You are absolutely right about television news: they thrive on scaring everybody! And the worse of it all is people actually fall for it *nodding*!

"For crisis sake - - enough about crises" LOL LOL LOL classy pun LOL LOL....

"What are we to believe?" our gut, dear; that's all we are to believe cause all the rest is rubbish!

That is why I detest studies! They do not apply to everybody and they are a bit bias if you ask me (like the most recent study on who is more intelligent: men or women? The conclusion was that men are smarter and more intelligent than women....did we need a study that concluded the same thing that men have been stating for thousands of years? Noooo....).

"We watch as the blind lead the blin until we are all blind" beautifully put!

I have ceased watching the Portuguese news cause it is only disgrace after disgrace....let me share with you what the news are doing to people here:
Last year I was on my daily walk when an old lady approached me and asked me if I could accompany her to the other side of the road (and cross a bridge) cause she thought that the young man behind her was an Ukrainian and she had heard in the news that they liked to rob and assault people...*nodding*. I was shocked; but I did accompany the poor old lady; when we got to the other side she thanked me and I returned to my side of the road. The young man passes by me and says "good morning" in perfect Portuguese (he was Portuguese)!

I say: the name of the news business is Manipulation!

Anti-crisis Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 3/28/2008 11:55 AM

Robert,
LOL. The world would have probably ended after the fall of Western Civilization.

We just can't let the doom overcome us.

Alexys Fairfield 3/28/2008 12:19 PM

Max,
Oh your voice is so beautiful. Thank you.

I just think people have to take everything with a grain of salt which means if they are not sure of something, do a little research and find out.

Those studies are so ridiculous aren't they - and SOOOOO bias!

"...like the most recent study on who is more intelligent: men or women? The conclusion was that men are smarter and more intelligent than women."

I DEMAND A RE-COUNT!

Did you know that more money was put into the research for Viagra than it was for Cancer?

What a story? Ukrainians?

When my friend first came to L.A. from England, he was a little unshaven, (George Michael-ish) and when he crossed the street once, an older lady literally locked her doors. What news story replayed in her mind at that moment?

"I say: the name of the news business is Manipulation!"

I agree. And marketing fear!

Fearless Cheers

Max 3/28/2008 1:12 PM

Alexys,

"Oh your voice is so beautiful. Thank you." - *bowing*! I drank lemon and honey just for this occasion lol....

"I just think people have to take everything with a grain of salt which means if they are not sure of something, do a little research and find out." - I agree with you. Ignorance is society's number one enemy!

"Those studies are so ridiculous aren't they - and SOOOOO bias!" - Absolutely!!! That is why when somebody steps up to me with studies (to back up arguments) I tend to be suspicious...

"I DEMAND A RE-COUNT!" - LOL LOL LOL....

"Did you know that more money was put into the research for Viagra than it was for Cancer?" - no, I didn't know that! That is sad *nodding*...they knew that viagra would generate more income than the cancer drugs *nodding*....

"What a story? Ukrainians?" - yes, Ukrainians...what an absurd! I was so shocked at the short old lady, but then again I thought to myself "Media manipulation"....

"When my friend first came to L.A. from England, he was a little unshaven, (George Michael-ish) and when he crossed the street once, an older lady literally locked her doors. What news story replayed in her mind at that moment?" - you're kidding? What did they say of George Michael upon his scandal there?

"I agree. And marketing fear!" - that too! Have you ever watched TVE (Spanish network)? One would think that their country is filled with monsters and murderers; and when you go there it is quite peaceful!

Strength Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 3/28/2008 5:20 PM

Max,
"I drank lemon and honey just for this occasion."

Oh you little doll you. For me?

"...they knew that viagra would generate more income than the cancer drugs."

That'$ right! And they probably even got bonuses too (just so Hugh Hefner could be a teenager again.)

"What did they say of George Michael upon his scandal there?"

Oh my, they went on and on and on and on and on. I want to know why the cop was there? Was he on duty? Every time I pass that park in Beverly Hills, I think of George Michael. I can still see his mugshot. (Quite a good one. In fact Mel Gibson and Nicole Ritchie have great mugshots too.)

"Have you ever watched TVE (Spanish network)? One would think that their country is filled with monsters and murderers; and when you go there it is quite peaceful!"

Ha ha. I know. Sometimes I will watch Spanish TV just for their expressions. They are hilarious. Every time my friend's mother calls him from England, she asks if he is okay because she sees the news about gang violence. What people don't know is that L.A. is very spread out. It is not as dense as Europe. We still have a lot of undeveloped land.

Definitely Strength Cheers

Max 3/31/2008 9:00 AM

Alexys,

"Oh you little doll you. For me?" - just for you :)!

" (just so Hugh Hefner could be a teenager again.)" - LOL LOL LOL you know?

"Oh my, they went on and on and on and on and on. I want to know why the cop was there? Was he on duty?" - I don't think he was on duty, I think he was on leisure time, but then he reminded himself that he was known to be a straight guy and that he used to help his mates to beat up homosexuals in school *nodding*....it is either that or Sony music wanted to frame Georgy!

"Every time I pass that park in Beverly Hills, I think of George Michael. I can still see his mugshot. (Quite a good one. In fact Mel Gibson and Nicole Ritchie have great mugshots too.)" - LOL LOL LOL Nicole Ritchie is dreadful!

"Ha ha. I know. Sometimes I will watch Spanish TV just for their expressions. They are hilarious. Every time my friend's mother calls him from England, she asks if he is okay because she sees the news about gang violence. What people don't know is that L.A. is very spread out. It is not as dense as Europe. We still have a lot of undeveloped land." - I know what you mean lol, they have hilarious expressions indeed (most of them are fowl language though)! Yeah, we do not receive good news on L.A here, it is a fact! You do (have undeveloped land)? Wow....

Endurance Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 3/31/2008 11:07 AM

Max,
I think the cop WAS from Sony. LOL. Remember George tried to get out of his contract? Like Prince he thought he was a slave. I don't think slaves get millions of dollars for doing something they love and generating millions of fans around the world. The upshot is after battling Sony for years and blaming them for lack of sales, they finally let him out of his contract. Now some years later George has a new album and guess who is the record company is? Yes, SONY!
I have to find his album. I hope it is as good as "Faith." I also hope that he won't be passed out behind the wheel of his car again.

"Nicole Ritchie is dreadful!"
She is a mother now. Cute baby. She seems to have cleaned up her lifestyle for now.

Rehabbed Celebrity Cheers

Max 3/31/2008 1:36 PM

Alexys,

"I think the cop WAS from Sony. LOL." - LOL LOL LOL LOL I wouldn't be surprised!

"Remember George tried to get out of his contract?" - all too well, I was living in France at the time!

"Like Prince he thought he was a slave. I don't think slaves get millions of dollars for doing something they love and generating millions of fans around the world." - sweet type of slavery! But record companies do force their artists to keep singing the same type of songs and for an artist that is a no no. It would be like someone telling you (and editor for example) to keep writing about the same topics....

"The upshot is after battling Sony for years and blaming them for lack of sales, they finally let him out of his contract." - yes, I remember...

"Now some years later George has a new album and guess who is the record company is? Yes, SONY!" - NO!!!!! He is a slave again? Shocking...

"I have to find his album. I hope it is as good as "Faith." I also hope that he won't be passed out behind the wheel of his car again." - I do not like it as much as I did "Faith"!

"She is a mother now. Cute baby. She seems to have cleaned up her lifestyle for now." - yeah, I know she is a mom now (May God bless her motherhood)...and I am glad that she's cleaned up :)! However her TV show is awful!

Winehouse Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 3/31/2008 6:53 PM

Max,
"But record companies do force their artists to keep singing the same type of songs and for an artist that is a no no."

Record companies are a lot like landlords. They put up a lot of money for the artist and shell out mega bucks; (recording studios, publicity, marketing, magazine/radio interviews, venues, food/lodging, per diems, pressing records, polishing the artists, radio airplay (millions in payola where they pay the DJ's to play the record), plus artist advances against sale of records, etc. They take all the risk so the artist can concentrate on being creative.
When the artists records don't sell, the record company takes the financial loss.
I used to interview recording artists and I know a bit about how they behave. They are never forced to sing, but after a while the artist wants more financial control without taking any risk. It's like when a landlord sells the property and the tenants wanting a piece of the pie when they are just renting. Hopefully that wasn't too longwinded. A lot goes into breaking any artist. It's mind boggling.

Ritchie's show is awful, I know. Hopefully she will make better choices as a mother.

Winehouse - Stronger Than Me Cheers

Max 4/01/2008 8:04 AM

Alexys,

"Record companies are a lot like landlords." - I hear you...

"They put up a lot of money for the artist and shell out mega bucks; (recording studios, publicity, marketing, magazine/radio interviews, venues, food/lodging, per diems, pressing records, polishing the artists, radio airplay (millions in payola where they pay the DJ's to play the record), plus artist advances against sale of records, etc. They take all the risk so the artist can concentrate on being creative." - I can appreciate that, business is business and time is money! But many times the artist is being creative yet the record company wants to keep the same artistic trend all the time...

"When the artists records don't sell, the record company takes the financial loss." - that is true.

"I used to interview recording artists and I know a bit about how they behave. They are never forced to sing, but after a while the artist wants more financial control without taking any risk." - you may be right; but the record companies push them around a bit too. It's like "we invested on you, we take the risk so you do what we tell you"; it is like the arrogance of the business world which clashes with the artistic mind (normally artists do not think in terms of money; and when they do usually they have someone behind them creating the conflict)...

"It's like when a landlord sells the property and the tenants wanting a piece of the pie when they are just renting. Hopefully that wasn't too longwinded. A lot goes into breaking any artist. It's mind boggling." - lol great example. I hear you, girl....

"Ritchie's show is awful, I know. Hopefully she will make better choices as a mother." - let's hope so...let's hope so!

Prince - Continental Cheers

Very true. Did you hear about the feud with Kelly Clarkson and Clive Davis.? She told Clive Davis (super record mogul) that he was too old to appreciate her music and that she didn't like the way he was marketing her record (paraphrasing). As you may know, Clive broke artists, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, etc. (super big artists) and he does know a thing or too about the record biz. Anyway, I think he wanted her to release a single and she wanted to release another one, to cut a long story short, her record bombed and she lost a lot of street cred. I know what you mean though. I wish there could be a happy medium so both parties could be satiated.

I saw Nicole Ritchie today on a magazine cover and I thought of you. :-o Her eyes showed vacancy and despair. I hope it's not a sign of things to come. I will give her your blessings. I think she needs them.

Alexys,

"Very true. Did you hear about the feud with Kelly Clarkson and Clive Davis.? She told Clive Davis (super record mogul) that he was too old to appreciate her music and that she didn't like the way he was marketing her record (paraphrasing)." - No, I haven't heard! :-o....she did? *nodding*

"As you may know, Clive broke artists, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, etc. (super big artists) and he does know a thing or too about the record biz." - Yes, I know he is the one behind their success! He is well known here and very good too: wherever he touches it turns into gold!

"Anyway, I think he wanted her to release a single and she wanted to release another one, to cut a long story short, her record bombed and she lost a lot of street cred. I know what you mean though. I wish there could be a happy medium so both parties could be satiated." - I hear you! You are right, there must be a medium indeed...However Clarkson disrespected the hierarchy, it is not like she was a Prince or a George Michael (who waited +/- 20 years before they could rebel themselves against the record company)...

"I saw Nicole Ritchie today on a magazine cover and I thought of you. :-o Her eyes showed vacancy and despair. I hope it's not a sign of things to come. I will give her your blessings. I think she needs them." - Poor thing...I don't know why these girls allow themselves to reach these levels of despair and void *nodding*...you know what she should do? Go to Africa and see how people (who have every reason to be in despair) live in utter happiness even though they own so little...
Thank you, please do :)!

"Clarkson disrespected the hierarchy, it is not like she was a Prince or a George Michael (who waited +/- 20 years before they could rebel themselves against the record company)."

She thought she had arrived ahead of schedule, but didn't realize the train left without her. LOL

I looked up George's latest record and it's 25 years of greatest hits. I already have heard those. They usually throw a new record in the mix, but I didn't see one listed. Arrrrrgh! Maybe I missed something and he did release a new one, but I didn't find it yet? Oh George, come back, all is forgiven.

"...you know what she should do? Go to Africa and see how people (who have every reason to be in despair) live in utter happiness even though they own so little..Thank you, please do :)!" LOL.

That's a marvelous idea and hopefully she won't bring a camera crew and her other blonde friend. (the one who was supposed to go to Rowanda?) Did you see Hotel Rowanda? It was much better than The Last King Of Scotland.

"She thought she had arrived ahead of schedule, but didn't realize the train left without her. LOL" - LOL LOL LOL you know?

"I looked up George's latest record and it's 25 years of greatest hits. I already have heard those. They usually throw a new record in the mix, but I didn't see one listed. Arrrrrgh! Maybe I missed something and he did release a new one, but I didn't find it yet? Oh George, come back, all is forgiven." - I have that one...it is sooo cool! He even sings a Bossa Nova song (in Portuguese)...marvellous! He released one, recently, it was called "Patience" (after his facial nip tuck lol)...it is interesting but not as hot as the previous ones! LOL he is totally forgiven!!!

"LOL." - LOL along with you...

"That's a marvelous idea and hopefully she won't bring a camera crew and her other blonde friend. (the one who was supposed to go to Rowanda?) Did you see Hotel Rowanda? It was much better than The Last King Of Scotland." - LOL LOL her other blonde friend is terrible too *nodding*! I did watch Hotel Ruwanda twice and I loved it...and that another example of what the media can do to a country's politics and stability! Did you know it all started with a French (I think it was French) magazine saying that one tribe was superior to the other *nodding*? I didn't watch The Last King of Scotland yet...

"Prince - Little Red Corvette" - I absolutely love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Max,
"I have that one...it is sooo cool! He even sings a Bossa Nova song (in Portuguese)...marvellous! He released one, recently, it was called "Patience" (after his facial nip tuck lol)...it is interesting but not as hot as the previous ones! LOL he is totally forgiven!!!"

Ooh, you HAVE it? Should I put that on my list? I have heard of Patience, but I haven't heard it yet. It's rare that I listen to the radio so I have to seek songs out.

"I did watch Hotel Ruwanda twice and I loved it."

It was so sad and I'm sure that film didn't show the real horror.(then it would have been a documentary)

"..and that another example of what the media can do to a country's politics and stability!"

Yes.

"Did you know it all started with a French (I think it was French) magazine saying that one tribe was superior to the other."

Really? I am shocked. :-o

"Prince - Little Red Corvette" - I absolutely love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Prince - Soft 'n' Wet Cheers (first hit)

Alexys,

"Ooh, you HAVE it? Should I put that on my list? I have heard of Patience, but I haven't heard it yet. It's rare that I listen to the radio so I have to seek songs out." - I have it, girl!!! You should definitely put it on your list!!! I have and it is all right, but not Good-good: know what I mean?

"It was so sad and I'm sure that film didn't show the real horror.(then it would have been a documentary)" - it is outraging...but it gaves us a glimpse pf what went down down there and think about the atrocities that humans are capable of. That is why I loved it: enlightening!

"Really? I am shocked. :-o" - that's right...I was shocked too. But it all started when the Belgians colonised the place and realised that one tribe was more light-skinned than the other (the darker one was the majority), so what did they do? They would give the top jobs to the ligh-skinned people, leaving the dark ones to do the minor jobs. The minority tribe was also encouraged to pursue their academic life, whereas the others could not go beyond high-school *nodding*...

"Me too. High-five." - *High-five*

"Prince - Soft 'n' Wet Cheers (first hit)" - Aaah, love it!!! I think MC Hammer did a sampling of this one...

Prince - When you were mine Cheers

Max,
I'll listen to George online and see what's up. Thanks for the advance notice.

Any time we can be enlightened is good even if it takes a tragic film like that.

That's really awful - yet it goes on everywhere around the world - the battle of dark and light.

From the moment you discern perception is a choice, you can decide nothing is bad. Your perspective changes. Lessons can be learned in everything and seeing the benefit of negativity evoked in yourself draws your attention to what matters. To sense something is bad suggests you are distracted from focusing on those things that evoke good feelings in you and enable you to serve differently than you are.

Liara,
I agree. We can ask ourselves, is our world half empty or half full? Thanks for your addition comments.

I agree! The world we live in is full of negativity but it teaches us to be positive. I see it all day and I make sure that I do not let it affect me or change me. I pride myself with being positive.
