I Saw Michael Jackson

Life is full of surreal moments. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what is a dream and what is reality. One such moment was when I saw Michael Jackson.

About ten years ago, I used to live near Borders in West Hollywood. Borders is a bookstore and cafe with an occasional performance by known celebrities or local bands trying to get a foot in the door of the entertainment industry.

Every evening, after my walk, I would find my way through the massive glass doors, peruse the latest offerings of books, magazines and music, fill my arms with a selection and scurry to the leather club chair by the window.

I was surrounded by books and music - masterful works; works in progress and works that baffled me as to how they were ever produced?

It was the perfect place to get away from it all and let my mind unwind into the abyss. For hours, I lingered in peaceful “readitation,” (reading + meditation = readitation) while the employees would start to clean up, walk the floor and announced closing time was in a half hour.

At any given time there is a long table by the door strewn with new books that are deeply discounted. One night as I was perusing the sale table, Michael Jackson walks in.

Now I didn’t know it was Michael Jackson until a few minutes later when I heard people whispering to each other, “It’s Michael Jackson.” I looked up and sure enough it WAS Michael Jackson. He was standing across the table, picking over the books.

He was alone. He looked just like he did in photographs, but a lot taller in person. He wore his signature black Fedora, black surgeon’s mask, St. Pepper jacket, white T-shirt, black straight trousers, white socks, and black loafers.

All I could think was, “Is he really Michael Jackson? What is he doing at Borders?”

By this time I had made eye contact with a friend who accompanied me that evening. I was trying to communicate with my eyes who was standing on the opposite side of the table. I didn’t want to blurt out, “Hey it’s Michael Jackson,” so I just kept nodding my head hoping my friend would catch the hint and somehow figure out what I was trying to say.

As my friend got closer, I mouthed the words, “Michael Jackson.” This was the period before camera phones so we couldn’t get any evidence, but my friend decided to come and join my quiet celebrity watching.

He decided to stand next to Michael. As Michael’s un-gloved bony fingers turned the pages of a children’s book, he simultaneously moved away from my friend.

He was like a deer moving away from a hunter. No one approached him, but he was obviously on guard. He moved to the end of the long table and tried to bury his head in the book, but my friend kept moving closer to him.

This wasn’t the Michael Jackson in 2005 that had been physically, emotionally, mentally drained and exonerated of child molestation, conspiracy and alcohol charges that could have sent him to prison for nearly 20 years, it was before that.

It was before he dangled his son Prince Michael II over the balcony of a Berlin hotel in 2002.

It was the period after the 1994 marriage to Lisa Marie Presley and after their subsequent divorce 20 months later in 1996.

This was long after 1984, when his hair caught on fire filming a Pepsi commercial and after he was rumored to have paid top dollar for the bones of John Merrick, the Elephant man.

It was the same Michael Jackson who has been in the spotlight since he was 11 years old. The same one who has sold over 170 million albums worldwide.

The one who is the double inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; once as a member of The Jackson 5 on May 6th, 1997 and once as a solo artist on March 19th, 2001.

The artist who won eight Grammy's in one night in 1982 for the Quincy Jones produced album Thriller, which became the biggest album in history with sales reaching over 108 million copies worldwide.

The same Michael Jackson who admits to being physically and mentally abused as a young boy by his father. In one incident, his father held him upside down by one leg and pummeled him over and over again with his hand.

One night while Michael was asleep, his father climbed into his room through the bedroom window wearing a frightening mask and started shouting. For years afterward, Michael suffered nightmares about being kidnapped from his bedroom.

I was standing a few feet away from a larger than life figure who I had first seen in concert with his brothers (The Jackson 5) at the Great Western Forum sometime in the 1980’s.

Though from the nose bleed seats, I could barely make him out in the small diameter of binoculars that I had to share with my brother. I will never forget how the music filled the venue that night.

He had such charisma. When he danced, it was as if stardust was sprinkled among us.

When he sang “Ill Be There,” I thought he was only singing to me. As he crooned, “You and I must make a pact, we must bring salvation back, where there is love, I'll be there...,” I was sure that it WAS me.

Little did I know, he was telling me in song that he would find me many years later. He just had to go through some stuff first. Okay, maybe that’s just what the naive version of me believed at the time.

True to his word, he did find me. He didn’t seem to recognize me. Just as I was about to say, “Hi Michael,” a man in a suit with a bag of books, tapped him on the shoulder and he left with him.

At that moment all the employees and stragglers ran to the big glass doors and all of us saw Michael Jackson get into the back of a black van with tinted windows as the driver sped off.

To this date I have not seen a celebrity bigger than Michael Jackson. It still stands out as being one of the most surreal moments in my life. Through his controversy, his star has faded and some of his fans have jumped ship, even I don’t feel the same way that I felt about him 20 year ago.

I didn’t see a celebrity standing across the table from me. I saw another human being who lives in a bubble. He wasn’t larger than life. I sensed a real tragedy in that he couldn’t live like the rest of us. I sensed that his spirit was trapped within the walls of a fame that was bigger than him. I sensed a Soul that was searching for a quiet place to breathe, to clear the karmic debris that fame brought him. A place in which we all deserve to bask.

Have you ever had a surreal moment, when you questioned what you were seeing, hearing or doing?

Why do you suppose it was surreal?

Has there been an incident where a celebrity has fallen in your eyes? What happened?

Share your thoughts.

Hello Lady A!

Before discussing MJ, I would like to say that I loved the new word "readitation": I have been in that state a lot of times, so I know exactly what you mean *bowing*!

Well, well, well...you saw Michael Jackson! What did you feel exactly?

The first photo: here he was still more or less, because now he is (how can I put it) disfigured; isn't he? And it was such a pity because he was so cute.
Let me share something with you: when I was 9 years old I told my mom "One day I will marry Michael Jackson!"...*nodding*...little did I know! Of course, two years earlier I had told mother that I wanted to get married to George Michael...I think I had a thing for gay men when I was a kid *nodding*! Perhaps I was already looking for my decorator, and I didn't know?

Anyway, why was MJ walking away from your friend? Is he that paranoid?

2005's events were terrible, poor guy! I didn't believe in any of the accusations made against him (in both occasions); he may be weird, but I don't think he is a pedophile *nodding*.

2002: Ok, I didn't like the way he was giving the bottle to his son, Prince Michael II (again, weird name to give to a child); he was shaking that kid in such a way, that he gave me a headache. Other than that, I have no issues with MJ - his kids are gorgeous (I am sure they are behind those masks)...

1994: weird marriage! What did she see in him? It remains a mystery to me *nodding*...

1984: oh yeah, poor guy! I was 7, when his hair got burned...God forbid that something like this ever happens to one of us *nodding*! His hair was never the same again!

Thriller: I have this record until today (I keep it as if it were a treasure)!! Smashing!! I even did a choreography to the sound of "Beat it!" in basic school LOL...it was cute!

Joe Jackson...*nodding*...terrible!!

MJ is the king of dance! He inspired so many artists; so many fans...he was great! And I think he will always be remembered, always!

"Have you ever had a surreal moment, when you questioned what you were seeing, hearing or doing?" - yes, when I had my first paranormal experience.

"Why do you suppose it was surreal?" - Because seeing a doll moving by itself, when your only 8 years old...is kind of surreal.

"Has there been an incident where a celebrity has fallen in your eyes? What happened?" - when I lived in London, Kensington, I saw a lot of British celebrities; but there were two I used to meet more often (the leading singer of Oasis, and the singer of Fine Young Cannibals). It didn't happen anything, I would meet them in the sandwich shop, or either in Brompton Road (shopping) and that was it (I never asked for autographs, nor approached them; I say 'live them kids alone' lol)...

Alexys, wonderful post, it brought back good memories :D!

MJ Cheers

Overall I must say that I don't go for celebrities. I feel that people tend to idolize them too much rather than looking at them as the people they are.

For me, I appreciate the skills, gifts, and charisma that some people posses, but I never let that have too much influence on my idea of them as a person.

I always feel as you said in your post: "I saw another human being who lives in a bubble. He wasn’t larger than life. I sensed a real tragedy in that he couldn’t live like the rest of us."

Kimmy 10/28/2008 5:39 PM

This was a awesome share. You saw another human being, who we probably only know what we are told by the money hungry media. I love the VH1 Michael Jackson story, only because he was the man that made us try to moonwalk in 6th grade. He was the one who inspired my glove earrings. And his old music to this day still makes me smile. I am not in a place to judge someone, so I never really talk about Michael Jackson the "human being." Since I don't know all the facts. I only pray for him and all the families that suffer.

As for celebrity, I have to share Axl W. Rose. Twice, I came across him. The first time was after a Metallica concert. Had to be 1988 or 1989. After the show, I was chatting with a few friends I saw there. The friend I came with was about 20 feet away talking to other people. I glance at her, and she is staring at me, eyes wide, screaming KIM, KIM. I turn around, and Axl walked behind me, gave me a big smile, and walked away. giggle now. Years later, I worked at Washington Mutual, morgage department, customer service. I get a call from someone who just refinanced, and wants to change mailing address. So I asked him his name, SS#, on the screen, W AXl Rose. So I said the name on the account, he verified. Then I said, and whom am I speaking to, William Rose. Let me say, I played the phone on mute, yelped, and then handled the call. I was totally professional until the end. As I verified the new address, my voice cracked. AND AXL ROSE GIGGLED AT ME. Surreal? or Embarrassed? YOU DECIDE!! LOL!

Great post!

Loving Annie 10/28/2008 8:30 PM

I love how you described all the differeneces in what you saw in him and the chronology, Alexys.

His fall from grace was one incident. OJ Simpson's. Brittany Spears. Magic Johnson. Ryan O'Neal. I'm sure there are a few more, but none come to mind right now...

The one surreal incident that I remeber ever having was I was in a courtroom watching the murder-forhire trial of a man who I had had a crush on for several years. I hadn't known he was a bad guy when we trained at the same gym for a few years - he seemed so sweet and he was english and so polite and charming, and he had used to box professionally and so he had this magnificent body, and....

Anyway, I was blown away to have read in the paper about this whole thing, and went to the courtroom to watch the trial, which took a week altogether.

And as I was watching his face on the witness stand, totally focused on him while the prosecutor questioned him - his face transformed into an absolutely horrible demonic image.

I was shicked and thought I was seeing things. I blinked, but there it still was. Not the David Amos I knew, but a monster's face full of hate and total darkness.

It really creeped me out. I've never forgotten it.

One of my very spiritual friends said as I got higher into the realms, things that like would happen more often - I would see good and evil like that at times despite what someone's earth appearance was.

Hi Max,

"I loved the new word "readitation": I have been in that state a lot of times, so I know exactly what you mean *bowing*!"

Thanks. I also have coined the word "music-tation," because I don't like to be disturbed when listening to music.

"...you saw Michael Jackson! What did you feel exactly?"

I felt that HE should ask for MY autograph. Seriously, it was so surreal, that I had no feelings at the time. At first I thought it was an impersonator, but I have seen enough photos of him to know it was the genuine article, the real deal. I have interviewed celebrities so I am not star struck, but he was different, definitely like someone trapped inside his fame. He was fragile, and purposely did not making eye contact (like many celebrities in public.)

"The first photo: here he was still more or less, because now he is (how can I put it) disfigured; isn't he? And it was such a pity because he was so cute."

I agree. He WAS cute and now he has let a plastic surgeon's knife have it's way with his face and sadly whittle away his nose.

"...when I was 9 years old I told my mom "One day I will marry Michael Jackson!"...*nodding*...little did I know!"

We were going to marry the same man. Did you practice writing Max Jackson or Mrs. Michael Jackson?

"Of course, two years earlier I had told mother that I wanted to get married to George Michael...I think I had a thing for gay men when I was a kid *nodding*! Perhaps I was already looking for my decorator, and I didn't know?"

LOL. George Michael was in the closet for a long time. My friend from England used to tell me that he was gay and I didn't believe her. She said she saw him in a nightclub dancing with another man. (If it were a gay bar, why was SHE there?) I love George. Did you know that he is a Greek Cypriot? His real name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou. Faith is still one of my favorite albums.

"Anyway, why was MJ walking away from your friend? Is he that paranoid?"

My friend got the bright idea that he would actually speak to Michael. Michael sensing that someone was near moved to the end of the table. He was like a butterfly. He did not want to be captured by conversation. My friend thought he was going to engage him in conversation, but Michael wasn't having it. He could be construed as paranoid, but I think he just wanted a "readitation" moment.

"2005's events were terrible, poor guy! I didn't believe in any of the accusations made against him (in both occasions); he may be weird, but I don't think he is a pedophile *nodding*."

That story is too convoluted to decipher.

"2002: Ok, I didn't like the way he was giving the bottle to his son, Prince Michael II (again, weird name to give to a child); he was shaking that kid in such a way, that he gave me a headache. Other than that, I have no issues with MJ - his kids are gorgeous (I am sure they are behind those masks)..."

I hope they have a sense of stability out of the limelight.

"1994: weird marriage! What did she see in him? It remains a mystery to me *nodding*..."

ROFL. She says it was love. I also heard that since she is a Scientologist that she was prompted to get him to join because they have to give quite a hefty bit of their income and Scientology is all about secrets, lies and cash. I also heard that he also tried to get her to sell the Elvis catalog to him. Who knows?

"1984: oh yeah, poor guy! I was 7, when his hair got burned...God forbid that something like this ever happens to one of us *nodding*! His hair was never the same again!"

It was definitely a hair-raising experience. ;D

"Thriller: I have this record until today (I keep it as if it were a treasure)!! Smashing!! I even did a choreography to the sound of "Beat it!" in basic school LOL...it was cute!"

Without a doubt, it is unequaled in historical value, production value and nostalgic value. Thriller and Off The Wall!

"Joe Jackson...*nodding*...terrible!!"

Maniacal.

"MJ is the king of dance! He inspired so many artists; so many fans...he was great! And I think he will always be remembered, always!"

Definitely. So many try to emulate him to this day, but none come close to his skills.

"Why do you suppose it was surreal?" - Because seeing a doll moving by itself, when your only 8 years old...is kind of surreal."

You saw a doll moving by itself? Had you just seen the film Chuckie?

"...when I lived in London, Kensington, I saw a lot of British celebrities; but there were two I used to meet more often (the leading singer of Oasis, and the singer of Fine Young Cannibals). It didn't happen anything, I would meet them in the sandwich shop, or either in Brompton Road (shopping) and that was it (I never asked for autographs, nor approached them; I say 'live them kids alone' lol)..."

You saw Liam Gallagher (Today is gonna be the day when it all comes back to you..." and Roland Gift (Good Thing; She Drives Me Crazy.) Cool.

Thanks for strolling down memory lane with me.

Great Music Cheers.

Alexys Fairfield 10/29/2008 12:08 AM

Nathan,
People do idolize celebrities a bit too much. They put them on pedestals and don't like to see them fall.

We can't let their personalities outshine their talent. We can't forget that they are real people like us.

Alexys Fairfield 10/29/2008 12:18 AM

Hi Kimmy,
It was interesting seeing a celebrity out of his normal environment. For that moment, he was normal just like us. You can't get any more normal than reading a book in a book store.

Isn't the moonwalk just awesome? It is like he is floating on air. You really had gloved earrings?

Axl Rose is cool. I just love Welcome To The Jungle. You even have his address? Some celebrities are just so normal when you speak to them aren't they?

A week prior to seeing Michael Jackson in Borders, I saw Ben Stiller in the same place looking like something the cat dragged in.

Thanks for sharing your surreal story.

Alexys Fairfield 10/29/2008 12:27 AM

Hi Annie,

I guess many celebrities fall from grace especially the ones you have mentioned.

That must have been awfully surreal. People only show us who they want us to see and it can be frightening to see who they are hiding behind their mask. Talk about Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. (Perfect for Halloween.)

You must have had nightmares after that.

Thanks so much for sharing this story.

Max 10/29/2008 9:07 AM

Hi Alexys,

"Thanks. I also have coined the word "music-tation," because I don't like to be disturbed when listening to music."

Don't mention it! "music-tation" I like that one too! Ooohh, you are that kind...I know the type *shifty eyes*!

"I felt that HE should ask for MY autograph."

ROFL....ROFL...

"Seriously, it was so surreal, that I had no feelings at the time. At first I thought it was an impersonator, but I have seen enough photos of him to know it was the genuine article, the real deal. I have interviewed celebrities so I am not star struck, but he was different, definitely like someone trapped inside his fame. He was fragile, and purposely did not making eye contact (like many celebrities in public.)"

I know what you mean; I am not star struck either (not because I have interviewed whomsoever); I just leave people alone.
Poor guy *nodding*! He must suffer a lot - all celebrities must suffer a lot; but I guess that is the cost of fame *shrugging*!

"I agree. He WAS cute and now he has let a plastic surgeon's knife have it's way with his face and sadly whittle away his nose."

Indeed...his nose seems to have vanished! I wonder what led him to undergo so many plastic surgeries *nodding*!

"We were going to marry the same man. Did you practice writing Max Jackson or Mrs. Michael Jackson?"

ROFL don't say? OMG!!! I confess I wrote Max Jackson LOL LOL...don't tell me you did the same?

"LOL. George Michael was in the closet for a long time. My friend from England used to tell me that he was gay and I didn't believe her. She said she saw him in a nightclub dancing with another man. (If it were a gay bar, why was SHE there?)"

Yes, he was - he even had this Asian girlfriend for a while...he had me fooled *nodding*! But after him, I started to pay attention (nowadays I know a gay man when I see one). ROFL...indeed, what was she doing there?

"I love George. Did you know that he is a Greek Cypriot? His real name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou. Faith is still one of my favorite albums."

I love him too. Yes, I knew he was a Greek Cypriot - he is gorgeous (I mean, he was, prior to his facial nip & tuck). Beautiful name! Faith is gorgeous, I only have one of his albums "Ladies & gentlemen"...it gathers all his best themes: superb collection!

"My friend got the bright idea that he would actually speak to Michael. Michael sensing that someone was near moved to the end of the table. He was like a butterfly. He did not want to be captured by conversation. My friend thought he was going to engage him in conversation, but Michael wasn't having it. He could be construed as paranoid, but I think he just wanted a "readitation" moment."

Again, poor MJ! But I get him: he must be approached by people all for the wrong reasons; so I suppose he is a bit traumatised *nodding*! It is hard to be famous, isn't it? I don't think I'd want to be a celeb.

"That story is too convoluted to decipher."

Yes...

"I hope they have a sense of stability out of the limelight."

Me too.

"ROFL. She says it was love. I also heard that since she is a Scientologist that she was prompted to get him to join because they have to give quite a hefty bit of their income and Scientology is all about secrets, lies and cash. I also heard that he also tried to get her to sell the Elvis catalog to him. Who knows?"

LOL LOL oh, I see...a marriage of interests: how romantic!
So, Lisa Marie is a Scientologist? THAT I didn't know...

"It was definitely a hair-raising experience. ;D"

ROFL...LOL LOL indeed LOL...

"Without a doubt, it is unequaled in historical value, production value and nostalgic value. Thriller and Off The Wall!"

And let's not forget "Bad"...after that, well...not so good!

"Definitely. So many try to emulate him to this day, but none come close to his skills."

Not even half way! It is impossible to emulate him...only him has that spark!

"You saw a doll moving by itself? Had you just seen the film Chuckie?"

LOL no, I hadn't watched Chuckie yet! LOL LOL

"You saw Liam Gallagher (Today is gonna be the day when it all comes back to you..." and Roland Gift (Good Thing; She Drives Me Crazy.) Cool."

Yes, Liam Gallagher (I only know those boys by "Gallagher brothers" but never took the time to memorise their first name *nodding*)...are you an Oasis fan? I only have their first CD...

"Thanks for strolling down memory lane with me."

It was my pleasure, lovely Lady A :D!

Don't look back in Anger Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 10/29/2008 11:01 AM

Hi Max,

"I know what you mean; I am not star struck either (not because I have interviewed whomsoever); I just leave people alone."

Some of them can't even go out to dinner.

"Poor guy *nodding*! He must suffer a lot - all celebrities must suffer a lot; but I guess that is the cost of fame *shrugging*!"

A very high price to pay.

"Indeed...his nose seems to have vanished! I wonder what led him to undergo so many plastic surgeries *nodding*!"

I heard that after his hair caught on fire, he started to be overly concerned with his appearance and took to plastic surgery - of course then it became monstrous.

"I confess I wrote Max Jackson LOL LOL...don't tell me you did the same?"

No, I didn't write Max Jackson, but I did write Alexys Jackson in calligraphy. LOL.

"Yes, he was - he even had this Asian girlfriend for a while...he had me fooled *nodding*! But after him, I started to pay attention (nowadays I know a gay man when I see one). ROFL...indeed, what was she doing there?"

I know. That Asian woman was a model who was in some of his videos. So now you can tell a gay man. Do you have a gaydar?

"I love him too. Yes, I knew he was a Greek Cypriot - he is gorgeous (I mean, he was, prior to his facial nip & tuck). Beautiful name! Faith is gorgeous, I only have one of his albums "Ladies & gentlemen"...it gathers all his best themes: superb collection!"

I like collections too, but sometimes they omit some great songs. I make my own collections of great songs.

"Again, poor MJ! But I get him: he must be approached by people all for the wrong reasons; so I suppose he is a bit traumatised *nodding*! It is hard to be famous, isn't it? I don't think I'd want to be a celeb."

He IS traumatized, probably by his father. No, I would not want to be a celeb.

"So, Lisa Marie is a Scientologist? THAT I didn't know..."

Yes, that's a whole other story of evil and corruption. You would be shocked.

"And let's not forget "Bad"...after that, well...not so good!"
Yes.

"LOL no, I hadn't watched Chuckie yet! LOL LOL"

Your doll actually moved by itself? No strings attached?

"Yes, Liam Gallagher (I only know those boys by "Gallagher brothers" but never took the time to memorise their first name *nodding*)...are you an Oasis fan? I only have their first CD..."

I am a music fan period. I can always find something to love. I like their song, "Wonderwall."

like the name of their album, "Don't Believe the Truth," and their new album, "Dig Out Your Soul," but I haven't heard them yet.

The Masterplan Cheers

Max 10/29/2008 11:13 AM

Hi Alexys,

"Some of them can't even go out to dinner."

That is so sad! And for what? So that people with low self-esteem can feel special for a few days *nodding*....

"I heard that after his hair caught on fire, he started to be overly concerned with his appearance and took to plastic surgery - of course then it became monstrous."

I see...so disappointing!

"No, I didn't write Max Jackson, but I did write Alexys Jackson in calligraphy. LOL."

ROFL....cute, very cute, missy :P! LOL in calligraphy? LOL LOL...I adore your style!

"I know. That Asian woman was a model who was in some of his videos. So now you can tell a gay man. Do you have a gaydar?"

LOL I do have a gaydar (my brother used to mock me LOL, but even he had to admit that it never fails)!

"I like collections too, but sometimes they omit some great songs. I make my own collections of great songs."

That is true, but George's is just weonderful! He collected his best songs and put it in two wonderful CDs!
:D I can imagine, Producer A!

"Yes, that's a whole other story of evil and corruption. You would be shocked."

:O I already am, and I haven't heard half the story yet! Promise you will tell me one day!

"Your doll actually moved by itself? No strings attached?"

I am telling you, girl: no strings attached! At first: it was scary!!!!

"I am a music fan period. I can always find something to love. I like their song, "Wonderwall.""

It is a cool song indeed!

"like the name of their album, "Don't Believe the Truth," and their new album, "Dig Out Your Soul," but I haven't heard them yet."

I heard one song last saturday, of the latest album (they came to Portugal), and it sounded just like the same old songs (you know when you listen to a song and you say "Oasis"?)! It was like listening to Roxette (those guys never get old and their songs sound all the same)!

Must Have Been Love Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 10/29/2008 1:47 PM

Hi Max,

"That is so sad! And for what? So that people with low self-esteem can feel special for a few days *nodding*...."

It is so Phantom Of The Opera-ish!

"ROFL....cute, very cute, missy :P! LOL in calligraphy? LOL LOL...I adore your style!"

LOL.

"LOL I do have a gaydar (my brother used to mock me LOL, but even he had to admit that it never fails)!"

I can usually tell too. I am surprised that men can't tell. They are always shocked when they find out.

"That is true, but George's is just wonderful! He collected his best songs and put it in two wonderful CDs!
:D I can imagine, Producer A!"

I had fantasies of being a producer. I would make an excellent sequencer (putting the songs in order for the album.)

":O I already am, and I haven't heard half the story yet! Promise you will tell me one day!"

I may tackle it one day. Believe me, it is a monster. Hey maybe that could be the title of the exposé, The Monster That Ate Hollywood.

"I am telling you, girl: no strings attached! At first: it was scary!!!!"

I can imagine what your little face must have looked like.

"I heard one song last saturday, of the latest album (they came to Portugal), and it sounded just like the same old songs (you know when you listen to a song and you say "Oasis"?)!"

I know exactly what you mean. I have a friend who loves 80's music and he bought The Pet Shop Boys Greatest Hits and he took it back the next day because he said it sounded like one continual song. LOL. The same with Soft Cell.

"It was like listening to Roxette (those guys never get old and their songs sound all the same)!"

ROFL. I love the name of their greatest hits collection, "Don't Bore Us Get To The Chorus." So perfect for them. Ha ha.

The Look Cheers

Liara Covert 10/29/2008 2:11 PM

What nostalgia! This story about glimpsing MJ causes me to think of the film, Music & Lyrics. Hugh Grant played a singer from an 80s boy band. His character went through his own identity crisis when his career evolved to struggle to get modern gigs at amusement parks. He was considered a thing of the past.

It can be difficult for human beings to recreate a sense of identity when the professional focus of their lives is no longer what they used to be known for. This is an invitation for everyone to realize, "you are not what you do." You are far more than that, and you will begin to realize the truth when you are good and ready.

Alexys Fairfield 10/29/2008 4:22 PM

Hi Liara,

Fame is a hard teacher. I didn't see Music & Lyrics yet, but I did see the film, About A Boy where Hugh Grant is a mentor to a young boy who sings.

I do feel for some celebrities who can't seem to regain themselves out of the spotlight.

We are not our careers, we are our Soul. Thanks for your wonderful comment.

Lady A,

"It is so Phantom Of The Opera-ish!"

LOL absolutely! By the way, I love that musical!

"I can usually tell too. I am surprised that men can't tell. They are always shocked when they find out."

*High Five*! No, they can't; and I don't know why! LOL LOL so true...I can tell by my dad: it took him months to perceive that my decorator was gay (even after meeting his "wifeman"); and when I told him the obvious he was shocked! Can you believe that *nodding*?

"I had fantasies of being a producer. I would make an excellent sequencer (putting the songs in order for the album.)"

And I bet you'd be a great one too! Ah, I used to think that I would be a butt kicking sequencer too...but then I woke up and smelled the coffee...
To be a sequencer one needs to have the right level of music-sensibility & timing...and I think you have it!

"I may tackle it one day. Believe me, it is a monster. Hey maybe that could be the title of the exposé, The Monster That Ate Hollywood."

ROFL...it is an awesome title! It would draw everybody's attention!

"I can imagine what your little face must have looked like."

It was like :O! And all red too lol...(I think it was the last time I blushed, because nowadays I don't LOL).

"I know exactly what you mean. I have a friend who loves 80's music and he bought The Pet Shop Boys Greatest Hits and he took it back the next day because he said it sounded like one continual song. LOL. The same with Soft Cell."

LOL LOL that is it!! And to think that I loved Pet Shop Boys!! Yes, it happens the same with Soft Cell (I liked them too)!

"ROFL. I love the name of their greatest hits collection, "Don't Bore Us Get To The Chorus." So perfect for them. Ha ha."

ROFL so perfect indeed! You know, every time they come up with a new song, and show up on TV, I'd tell my brother "Look at these guys: they were put in a freezer while singing "Joyride" 2 years ago, and now that they are defrosting they are still singing it!"...

Things Will never be the same Cheers

Max,

"By the way, I love that musical!"

So do I. Michael Crawford & Sarah Brightman can "sing to me," anytime.

"No, they can't; and I don't know why! LOL LOL so true...I can tell by my dad: it took him months to perceive that my decorator was gay (even after meeting his "wifeman"); and when I told him the obvious he was shocked! Can you believe that *nodding*?"

I can believe it. I have seen it with my own eyes.

"And I bet you'd be a great one too! Ah, I used to think that I would be a butt kicking sequencer too...but then I woke up and smelled the coffee..."

I can feel the wave of the music. Albums should create a mood.

"To be a sequencer one needs to have the right level of music-sensibility & timing...and I think you have it!"

Thanks. I've got the music in me.

"ROFL...it is an awesome title! It would draw everybody's attention!"

Then the Scientologists would start squirming again, they don't like to be revealed.

"It was like :O! And all red too lol...(I think it was the last time I blushed, because nowadays I don't LOL)."

Come on, I know for a fact that you blushed on your wedding day. I have the photos. (You looked fabulous by the way.)

"LOL LOL that is it!! And to think that I loved Pet Shop Boys!! Yes, it happens the same with Soft Cell (I liked them too)!"

Gotta love those one-hit wonders.

"ROFL so perfect indeed! You know, every time they come up with a new song, and show up on TV, I'd tell my brother "Look at these guys: they were put in a freezer while singing "Joyride" 2 years ago, and now that they are defrosting they are still singing it!"..."

So true.

Songs Always Sound The Same Cheers.

Alexys,

"So do I. Michael Crawford & Sarah Brightman can "sing to me," anytime."

Oh yeah!!

"I can feel the wave of the music. Albums should create a mood."

For sure! I utterly agree with you! There are some albums that make me wonder "who on earth sequenced this? Track 2 should be after 4, and track 6 should be after 1!"

"Thanks. I've got the music in me."

You are welcome! Yes, you do.

"Then the Scientologists would start squirming again, they don't like to be revealed."

LOL LOL LOL I've heard that too!

"Come on, I know for a fact that you blushed on your wedding day. I have the photos. (You looked fabulous by the way.)"

ROFL...*no comments*!

"Gotta love those one-hit wonders."

ROFL...ROFL....

You Kill me Cheers.
