What Do You Believe?

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

one should read and take in all kinds of things but choose carefully the best ones to follow
Hi Robert,
Ain't that the truth? We should always choose from the spiritual banquet carefully. :D
I believe human beings are alive to learn. Wisdom is gained through experiencing many storms. I believe each being is responsible for his or her own actions.
You are so right, Alexys. I did a similar post on his myself.
People are too quick to hand their thinking over to other people, without questioning.
One should always 'peep behind the curtain' and question.
I agree that people shouldn't beleive everything they hear, but it can be equally dangerous to pick and choose what we want to beleive.
If we ignore the obvious evidence that something is true and we choose to not beleive in it, then we are making a huge mistake.
Or perhaps we see that something obviously isn't true but we choose to believe in it nonetheless.
It takes good filtering and an honest approach to see what is really true and what is really false.

Liara,
We are all works in progress. :D
Hi Uber,
We all need to feel a sense of what we feel is right and we shouldn't give up our opinions or ideals.
Isn't that voyeurism? (looking behind the curtain?) LOL.
Nathan,
You are right, if a person doesn't have their own ideals, they are more likely to fall for others. (thus easily manipulated.)
We have to keep our filters on.
Our beliefs create our worldview, and our worldview determines what we choose to believe. For me,I like to be open to everything and notice the gut feeling of what is the truth for me. A belief may be a truth for some people but not for everyone and it pays to be open to change our beliefs as we grow.
It is difficult to imagine that some people believe what they do, but they are only holding the beliefs that their worldview is capable of tolerating.
Thanks for this Alexys!
Cheers! :D
Hi Miruh,
I agree. Being open you can begin to determine what works for you. You are fortunate to be able to develop your views, but others are somewhat clueless as to what or who to follow. I also hold the belief that many people are too fearful to go outside of what beliefs are set for them.
Cheers!
Alexys, re:"...Others are somewhat clueless as to what or who to follow. I also hold the belief that many people are too fearful to go outside of what beliefs are set for them."
This is also a worldview: "I don't know what to believe, I'm scared, someone please tell me what I should believe in."
If this is your worldview then you are going to believe what you are told to believe, then you have a false sense of security and hold on to it because that is the best you can do.
That's my belief. :D
Hi Miruh,
You are right. I guess all we can do is embrace people with love and light and hope that they find the truth that rings in their Soul.
Thanks for your addition. :D
Peaceful Cheers.
