Koi Meets World

If a plant is placed in a pot, it will only grow as much as the pot allows. If it’s roots can't spread, it can't grow. Only after replanting it in another soil outside the pot will it grow.

If a koi fish is put into a fish bowl, the most it will grow is three inches.
If you were to put it in a tank, it would grow to nine inches. If placed in a pond, it can grow 18 inches. If you go one step further and put it into a lake, it can expand up to three feet.

When it is not constrained by a bowl, tank or pond, it has the freedom to amplify.

Imagine what we can do if we didn’t limit our abilities to grow? When we are aligned to our nature, we are able to augment our environment.

While we shouldn’t spread ourselves too thin, we should spread out and find that which makes us happy. That activity which etches a smile on our days.

Alexys, wonderful post. I love the way you relate the basis of life and learning. For I see learning as the method to expand the pond, lake, ocean of your soul, allowing the mind to grow like your Koi fish.

To imagine oneself as a koi in the infinite sea of wisdom leads to a deeper understanding of self-love in the sea of immortality. Happy Valentine's Day!

Very nice article, Alexys. And yes, we should always explore our capabilities instead of limiting ourselves.

I believe this is how we can learn more.

By the way, my wife and daughter has finally recovered. And I know, it will happen without the support and prayers from all of you.

Thanks!

Hi Maithri,

You ARE the wild beauty in my Soul.

Thank you for your presence.

Hi Eric,

Just by watching nature, it can show us about ourselves. You are right, with learning - we can expand the waters within us just by knowing how to navigate our movement.

Thanks for your deep thoughts.

Hi Liara,

Ah, the sea of love is where we all want to be. Thanks for that beautiful analogy.

Happy Love Day.

Hi Angel,

I left a comment on your post but I am not sure if it got through.

I am delighted to hear that your wife and daughter have recovered.

Take care of them and yourself.

Peaceful Blessings.

Broadway Matron,

Thank you for going with your gut feeling - I like that. You are a woman of power.

I love this blog and I love your way of thinking.
Perhaps I'm being negative or perhaps I'm limiting my abilities to think, but we are living in a "goldfish bowl". I agree we need to expand ourselves in order to be happy but our environment sometimes limits this. Sorry, I'm having a bad day!

Alexys Fairfield 2/16/2009 11:06 AM

Pastfirst,

We all go through rough patches - bad days, etc. It's important to know that it doesn't last forever and we really can expand our thinking, thus our mental environment.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Came over via Broadway Matron. I like this very much and it's right on the money. We need to spread our wings a bit more and expand ourselves.

Have a terrific day. :)

Alexys Fairfield 2/16/2009 3:02 PM

Hi Sandee,

If we each expanded a little everyday, imagine how much more we could accomplish?

Thank you for dropping by today.

Make your day inspirational!

Hello Alexys.

I wonder if limiting the Koi to a small environment causes him to turn inwards and focus that growth to his inner world rather than his outer? LOL

Alexys Fairfield 2/16/2009 9:03 PM

Hi Miruh,

I love how you gave us something else to think about. You could be on to something.

Thank you for that inner view.
