10 Steps To No Stress

Imagine going around thinking that tides are caused by an earth monster breathing. That's what ancient mariners thought when they saw the tides.
Quite a few years later when humans began recording tides and events around them, they found that tides were closely related to the movements of the moon and the sun.
Tides occur when the moon pulls upwards on the water while the earth is pulls downward in tug of war. Although the sun is much larger than the moon, the moon is closer to the earth and exerts more gravitational pull than the sun.
We too have tides in our lives. The push and pull of will versus desire. Internal and external forces dragging us down. When we try and force what is not meant to be by pushing or pulling until it breaks.
This can cause a lot of stress to our lives and put us in a precarious position of not listening to the flow of life and not knowing how to get out of the tides. The stress and strain it puts on our mind, body and Soul can lead us to great despair.
Stress can prematurely age us, lead to depression and/or chronic fatigue and darken our perspective on life.
When we are under stress, our bodies can produce up to 1500 biochemical reactions. Oxygen and glucose rushes to our cells, and neurotransmitters and hormones are pumped out in droves.
Stress is caused by many factors including relationships, traumatic events, financial woes, work (or lack of), technology issues (just thinking about what one would do without a cellphone can cause a panic attack) and a myriad of internal buttons that can short out homeostasis - our internal equilibrium.
When we have our back up against the tides or we are challenged in any way, our brain sends a message to the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which controls the output of cortisol and adrenaline.
Adrenaline keeps us alert by increasing our heart rate and blood pressure and quickly mobilizing energy reserves. Cortisol is a slow dance that helps replenish energy supplies and prepares our immune system to manage any bacterial/viral threat or injury.
Chronic stress impairs not only the ability of the immune system to relocate immune cells but also the ability of those cells to do their job of recognizing and responding to the pathogenic agent.
So what can we do to alleviate stress from our life?
- Have a sense of your body. Where you are, what you are thinking, what you are doing.
- Have a inner sense of your muscles, your balance, the inflow and output of energy.
- By being tuned in to your bodies, internal and energy, you can pinpoint when oyur bodies are pumping out stress hormones.
- Watching the negativity of television news can make you sick when you take it all in. If you have to be informed, read a newspaper, without a newscaster’s inflection or opinion.
- Let the stress run out of your body by moving your body (sports or any physical activity).
- Eating habits can lead to a vicious cycle of depression and poor health. Consuming enough fruits, vegetables and drinking plenty of water can lead to less stress and a happier outlook.
- Music therapy/relaxation- pick a favorite song in a favorite chair/place. Become the music.
- Lie motionless in your body and feel the vibration of silence.
- Having a good support system, i.e. people around you who love you and are there for you is an excellent source of encouragement.
- Have fun in whatever you do and enjoy this life in which you have been blessed.

Hello Alexys,
Wow, 1500 biochemical reactions!
These are great ways to deal with stress. I think the first three are so important. So many times when we are stressing we are all in our heads and not aware of the stress on our bodies.
Being out in nature, fresh air and exercise works the best for me.
Great post!
Hang loose. :D
Your list is wonderful Alexys! It should be studied carefully and lived by us all who truly want peace in our lives.
I write,
take Photos,
Hike,
Study and interact with Nature,
I forgive the past as I find it in the present,
take deep breathes,
and Help people finish forgotten projects.
Stress can cause so much damage to our auto immune system. The key is awareness, when we live in the moment there is rarely stress. When we see the bigger picture of our journey we learn that there is nothing to stress about for everything is temporary on our journey and all will pass in time. Great list, thanks for sharing.
Hi Lady A!
"Tides occur when the moon pulls upwards on the water while the earth is pulls downward in tug of war. (...) The push and pull of will versus desire. Internal and external forces dragging us down." - I loved the way you compared the tides of the sea with the tides of life - brilliant analogy!
"When we try and force what is not meant to be by pushing or pulling until it breaks." - Touché!!! That is exactly what people do...and one of the finest examples is when people try to cling to relationships that were never meant to be.
"Stress can prematurely age us, lead to depression and/or chronic fatigue and darken our perspective on life." - so true. I have a friend that suffered from stress and got depressed; she was taking pills (which worsened her condition) but then dropped them after her friends told her that she was crazier than before *nodding*. Stress management is very important (for we are all different: some manage it well by nature, and others need some aid).
"(just thinking about what one would do without a cellphone can cause a panic attack)" - LOL LOL LOL I know this is serious stuff, but I couldn't help myself *nodding*. How sad it must be to get in panic over a cellphone...damn!
"Have a sense of our body. Where we are, what we are thinking, what we are doing." - absolutely! In Buddhism they call it "Samyak Smrti (the right Mindfulness - the controlled faculty of cognition)" [part of the eightfold path] - we must be attentive to every detail about our existence.
"Watching the negativity of television news can make us sick when we take it all in. If we have to be informed, we can read a newspaper, without a newscaster’s inflection or opinion." - indeed; newscasters spread terror (it seems like they wish to keep us in fear all the time).
"Let the stress run out of our body by moving our body (sports or any physical activity)." - that's my motto! But somehow people enjoy not to allow the body to move...
"Music therapy/relaxation- pick a favorite song in a favorite chair/place, with a favorite smile. Become the music." - Amen!
"Lie motionless in your body and feel the vibration of silence." - Savasana! This is a great tip!
"Having a good support system, i.e. people around us who love us and are there for us is an excellent source of encouragement." - I utterly agree with you!! There is nothing better than feeling loved. Love helps us surpass obstacles in a much easier way.
"Have fun in whatever we do and enjoy this life in which we have been blessed." - Amen, girl! Amen!
"What are some of the things you do to release stress?" - You already know some of them: I do Yoga, Tai Chi, I Power-walk, I dance, I listen to music a lot (can't live without it) and laugh...I laugh a lot. What are some of the things you do to release stress?
I really loved this article, darling; it is so positive - thank you! :D
Relaxing Cheers
Hi Miruh,
Ah, the wonders of nature are awesome. Even watch nature is relaxing. I live steps from a marsh where ducks and exotic birds frolic in the air and water. As I walk by the ducks always sound like they are laughing - so I ask them to let me in on the joke and we both laugh. ;D
Thanks for the "de-lightful" comment.
Hi Bernie,
I look at lists as being short shakes of awakening. They are easy to read, digest and adapt.
Your photos are stunning. I like nature too as reflected in the comment above. All of your tips are helpful too. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Mark,
I was shocked as to how much stress can damage us. It builds up daily. As long as we de-stress daily, we can keep it to a minimum or better yet - zero.
Hi Max,
"I loved the way you compared the tides of the sea with the tides of life - brilliant analogy!"
Thank you my dear friend.
"...and one of the finest examples is when people try to cling to relationships that were never meant to be."
Ah yes, those [relationship] cling-ons. I often tell people just let go, but they just can't. It's like they have super glue on their hands.
Pills for depression. Doesn't that just seem like an accident waiting to happen? You don't put out a fire with gasoline. That poor woman. (I'm not saying that some people don't need medication to readdress the chemical imbalance though)
"How sad it must be to get in panic over a cellphone...damn!"
Very sad. I almost did this post about it. So many people are like that. Did you know that the nickname for the BlackBerry (cellphone) is "CrackBerry?" (no joke)
"...we must be attentive to every detail about our existence."
Yes and sometimes even that can cause stress. LOL.
Don't get me started on newscasters. (so many stories) They would put my rants on teachers to shame. So I will keep it short and say, I agree with you, they do want to keep us in fear. Shame on them.
"There is nothing better than feeling loved. Love helps us surpass obstacles in a much easier way."
Amen.
"You already know some of them: I do Yoga, Tai Chi, I Power-walk, I dance, I listen to music a lot (can't live without it) and laugh...I laugh a lot."
All good.
I do everything on the list. I would like to do them all at once, but it would cause too much stress. LOL. Some more things I do are reading, watching films, watching people, taking photos, and not to forget bubble baths by candlelight. In addition, did you know that reading and writing about stress relieves stress?
"I really loved this article, darling; it is so positive - thank you! :D"
Thank YOU for being positively charming.
Charming Cheers.
Hi Alexys,
"Thank you my dear friend."
Don't mention it, girl :D!
"Ah yes, those [relationship] cling-ons. I often tell people just let go, but they just can't. It's like they have super glue on their hands."
I hear you!
"Pills for depression. Doesn't that just seem like an accident waiting to happen? You don't put out a fire with gasoline. That poor woman. (I'm not saying that some people don't need medication to readdress the chemical imbalance though)"
It does! In her case it was just that: "put out a fire with gasoline" *nodding*. I agree with you, although sometimes I doubt medication readdresses chemical imbalances for real (at times, I think it only puts the problems to sleep)...
"Very sad. I almost did this post about it. So many people are like that. Did you know that the nickname for the BlackBerry (cellphone) is "CrackBerry?" (no joke)"
LOL LOL for real? LOL LOL it is a nice nickname though! This is to what some people have come to: to allow technology to dictate their mental state and humour levels *nodding*.
You should do a post about it - I am sure it would be delicious!
"Yes and sometimes even that can cause stress. LOL."
LOL LOL LOL...well...perhaps LOL...
"Don't get me started on newscasters. (so many stories) They would put my rants on teachers to shame. So I will keep it short and say, I agree with you, they do want to keep us in fear. Shame on them."
LOL - oh rants on teachers *delighted face*! Have you noticed that teachers are the kings of victimisation?
Shame on THEM indeed!!
"All good."
*High Five*!
"I do everything on the list. I would like to do them all at once, but it would cause too much stress. LOL. That is good too! LOL LOL LOL I hear you! You take photos? I didn't know that yet...do you post your own photographs?
No, I didn't know that writing about stress relieves stress...but it makes sense. As we read and write about it we tend to forget about our own stress and, sometimes, realise how silly we are to succumb to it (it is like it leads us to introspection and contemplation).
"Thank YOU for being positively charming."
Awww...don't make my stomach lining blushing, please *angel face*! lol....
You Are Charming Cheers
Hi Max,
"...sometimes I doubt medication readdresses chemical imbalances for real (at times, I think it only puts the problems to sleep)..."
Exactly. It puts everything to sleep. I call it permanent hibernation.
"LOL LOL for real? LOL LOL it is a nice nickname though! This is to what some people have come to: to allow technology to dictate their mental state and humour levels *nodding*.
You should do a post about it - I am sure it would be delicious!"
People are so gullible sometimes, especially when they replace human emotion and tactility with technology. I may have to do a post on it.
"Have you noticed that teachers are the kings of victimisation? Shame on THEM indeed!!"
I have noticed. I feel for the great teachers out there who don't get enough praise. The silent angels who inspire students to be more than they thought they could be.
"*High Five*!"
Super High Five ^5.
"You take photos? I didn't know that yet...do you post your own photographs?"
Only some of them make it to the posts. I have to get out more so I can take more photos. Sometimes I am lovingly chained to my desk for several hours.
"No, I didn't know that writing about stress relieves stress...but it makes sense. As we read and write about it we tend to forget about our own stress and, sometimes, realise how silly we are to succumb to it (it is like it leads us to introspection and contemplation)."
That is exactly right.
"Awww...don't make my stomach lining blushing, please *angel face*! lol...."
Your stomach lining deserves it doesn't it darling?
"You Are Charming Cheers"
Now My Stomach Lining Is Blushing Cheers!
Love is greatest gift!
Love Gift,
It certainly IS. :D
Hi Alexys,
"I call it permanent hibernation."
That is exactly it: permanent hibernation!!
"People are so gullible sometimes, especially when they replace human emotion and tactility with technology. I may have to do a post on it."
Even I am gullible sometimes (I admit) *nodding*! So true, Lady A, so true. I will love reading it :D!
"I feel for the great teachers out there who don't get enough praise. The silent angels who inspire students to be more than they thought they could be."
I'm with you on this one (with all my heart)! There are excellent teachers out there, that inspire their students and who really care for their future - remarkable! Let's raise our glasses to them *toasting to good teachers*!
"Super High Five ^5."
lol....I like that!
"Only some of them make it to the posts. I have to get out more so I can take more photos. Sometimes I am lovingly chained to my desk for several hours."
Have I missed any of them? Lady A, a true artist :D! I know what you mean, girl...
"That is exactly right."
*Bowing*....
"Your stomach lining deserves it doesn't it darling?"
LOL LOL LOL you kill me, A!! LOL...
"Now My Stomach Lining Is Blushing Cheers"
LOL and it looks so cute when it does...
Almond Cheers
Hi Max,
I am joining you in raising my glass to outstanding teachers. They are greatly needed and sorely missed.
Cin Cin. (Clicking glass)
[photos] They have been scattered here and there - even I don't remember exactly where?
You must be psychic. I am just finishing a handful of almond. I didn't know that I had a web camera.
More Almond Cheers.
Lady A,
"I am joining you in raising my glass to outstanding teachers. They are greatly needed and sorely missed."
Yes, they are!
"Cin Cin. (Clicking glass)"
Cin Cin....
"[photos] They have been scattered here and there - even I don't remember exactly where?"
Ai, ai...ok...deny us your talent *angel face* LOL...(I am kidding, girl)!
"You must be psychic. I am just finishing a handful of almond. I didn't know that I had a web camera."
LOL LOL LOL...you did? I wish I believed in coincidences lol...
LOL LOL LOL LOL you are good LOL LOL...
Almond essential oil Cheers
Hi Max,
"I am just finishing a handful of almond."
Arghhhh. Typo. See, I was so busy putting them in my mouth that my hand couldn't get to the 's'.
Did you know that California is famous for their almonds?
Almond Butter Cheers.
Lady A,
No, I didn't know that California was known for its almonds...are they sweet?
(I adore almonds)
Hi Max,
All I can say is Mmmmmmm. They are just perfect. I like raw almonds without salt or that horrible hickory taste.
The almond tree was brought to California from Spain in the mid-1700's by the Franciscan Padres. California's has more than a half million acres which are under almond cultivation.
During Roman times, almonds were considered a fertility charm, and newlyweds would be showered with almonds during weddings.
Sending You Love And Almonds Cheers!
Almonds,
I love raw Almonds too. I didn't know they were a fertility symbol.
Everytime I will eat an almond then, I will give birth to a new idea and way of seeing. :)
Hi Bernie,
I knew you had good taste. ;D
Hail to the mighty power of almonds.
Keep birthing and rebirthing.
Hey Alexys,
"All I can say is Mmmmmmm. They are just perfect. I like raw almonds without salt or that horrible hickory taste."
Excellent! Me too: I like them raw and tasty!!! Mmmm....
"The almond tree was brought to California from Spain in the mid-1700's by the Franciscan Padres. California's has more than a half million acres which are under almond cultivation."
I didn't know that - thanks :D! Oh really? That is very very interesting! I must look for some Californian almonds (there is only one supermarket here that sells nuts from the US - it is a German chain) now.
"During Roman times, almonds were considered a fertility charm, and newlyweds would be showered with almonds during weddings."
And they are! They are also a sign of good omen - success (unless they are defective).
Thank You Lady Almond Cheers
