Karta, The Orangutan Spy & The Great Esc-Ape

It was like watching a live action film. Karta, a cunning 27-year-old 137-pound Orangutan and apparent super spy short-circuited electric wires on a fence and built a makeshift ladder that led to her escape.
But before this animal tale would come to an end, it would amaze us humans and write itself into the animal history books before we could say “Wow.”
In a feat that could rival James Bond, Karta used a stick to twist electric wires together circling her enclosure to kill the power supply, which would have sent an electric shock through her.
She cleverly made it through the fencing, entering a bushy area that separated her from the public. After quickly surveying the area, she piled sticks, grass and plant roots and used them as a ladder to escape.
Though Karta’s mission was not impossible, it was cut short by the zookeepers from Adelaide Zoo in South Australia aiming tranquilizer guns at her.
Not knowing what to do, she hung out on the top of the fence for 30 minutes. Reminiscent of the Bond and Scaramanga showdown, but without the Walther PPK, the gold .45-calibre revolver or the third nipple.
Karta’s eyes darted back and forth between the zookeepers and the road to freedom. In her head she hears the theme song from Live And Let Die,
“When you were young and your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live
(you know you did, you know you did you know you did)
But in this ever changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry
Say live and let die...”
While the zookeepers wondered what was in Karta’s head, she continued to hear her tune,
“What does it matter to ya
When you got a job to do
You gotta do it well
You gotta give the other fellow hell...”
Karta thought to herself for a moment. She knew the song was right, but the pressure was too much. As she stared into the eyes of freedom, she leaped back into the main enclosure area.
Animals are continuously teaching us about ourselves. We observe them in cages while they observe us in cages. We both want freedom and we both lack it for one reason or another.
But we can live without enclosures through love. A life without love is like living in a cage. We need to experience the grandeur of loving another and feeling another love us. Love’s glorifying rivulets soften our soul and make make our hearts speak in sonnets.
Zookeepers think that Karta may have escaped to find her long lost love Pusang, who died of a respiratory infection a month ago, but no one can explain how she tripped the light fantastic to get out.
Perhaps, like most of us, she wanted to see her name in lights? Perhaps she wanted to escape the confines of her surroundings? Perhaps she just wanted a little peace away from the chitchatting humans who point and take photos of her?
In the end, she may have gotten just what she wanted, solitary confinement, where she will remain because of her escape. Instead of a punishment, it will be her reward for throwing caution to the wind and seeking a better place.
This is all the time she needs to plot her next move. Who knows, next time she may just jump the enclosure and walk among us as if she is one of us.
She may want to see the world outside where people don’t stare at her and speak as if she doesn’t understand them. She knows exactly what is being said. She even takes notes. How else did she pass her electronic course that taught her how to escape?
For now she will hear another tune,
“You only live twice or so it seems
One life for yourself and one for your dreams
You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is its name...”
Do you think animals have a sixth sense or do they channel the same spirit as humans?

Different creatures have their own baseline frequency and energy vibrations. Humans learn to expand their sensitivities to understand animal energy frequencies just as gardeners evolve to listen to and communicate with plant, flower and vegetation frequencies. The process involves learning to read and understand your emotions so you gain insight into the successful flow of energy in relationships, situations and other creatures outside the self. To consciously choose to expand insight into time and wave motion helps you consistently maintain a higher frequency and more positive outlook about existence. The book, Frequency by Penney Peirce is highly recommended for wisdom.
Liara,
You describe the theory of animism where there is a soul in all living creatures. I think when animals tap into a source that defies what we think animals should be, it leaves us shaking our heads in disbelief. Some humans are savage and some animals are beyond human, it's quite an interesting soup.
One view is this ape story is a metaphor for how humans consciously imprison their authentic selves and refuse to acknowledge universal oneness. Selective amnesia is part of a divine plan.
To sense that everything and every creature is made of the same energy is to recognize each one is equal. In this view, no hierarchy exists. Nothing is better or worse, more or less intelligent. Duality is pure illusion. Everything just is. There is no such thing as 'should be' unless you resist the natural flow of energy. Superiority and inferiority complexes arise in the mind from core misunderstandings about why one exists. The ego perceives the self as limited to a linear, physical body. Soul is aware of an expanding experience of conscious awareness. Ego gets in the way of adjusting. At a given moment, outer experience reflects the state of the inner self. Every energy being is a work in progress, evolving to love and accept things at the same level.
Liara,
I agree. Every being is a being made to experience highs and lows. We each walk a high wire of sorts when we venture out of our self-imposed prisons.
Great story. I do think that animals know and see much more than we do in many aspects. I am often asking my Boxer Nubby to tell me what he knows.
Mark,
Thanks. I think animals have their own sense of logic and reasoning that sometimes inspires us.
I love Boxers too.
I've seen this particular orangutan (I'm in Adelaide) doing some really amazingly well thought out things before. On one hand I'm not surprised, on the other I'm amazed that she figured out how to get rid of the electric fence!
Hi Chiara,
Perhaps she had been studying electric wiring in her spare time. (a correspondence course)
I think that she should come to Hollywood for her own reality TV show. She is already a star.
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts.
