An Odyssey of Love, Enlightenment and Finding the Fountain of You.

It's Written All Over Your Face

It seems like every time I go somewhere, people approach me. It’s not because I’m popular or famous (except in my own mind), or that I wander around like I’m lost (my mother’s famous for that), it is because I have an honest face (or so I am told.)

What’s an honest face anyway? Is it one that promises to tell the truth or one that promises to listen to your truth?

Yesterday, everywhere I went, people found me and started talking. One woman who was doling out yogurt samples explained that her 8 year old son still believed in Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy and she wanted to tell him that they didn’t exist.

To which I responded, “He will find out when the time is right. It’s a natural progression of development.” And with a wink I add, “Besides, I still believe in all of them.”

Another woman in the supermarket came up to me and asked if I wanted a coupon for coffee?

When I said, “Thank you but I don’t drink coffee,” she just blurted out that her son was in a car accident. When this happens, I know that I am being used by the universe as a channel.

She went on to say that her son had just come out a coma after 3 months. He was in the passenger seat when the car was broadsided by a speeding pick up truck.

He is a 34 year old contractor who was back at home with his parents. He used to be able to calculate all kinds of numbers in his head without a calculator. She was so happy to have him home again after many years.

As I listened to her pour her story out, I sympathized with her and gave her my full attention to hear what she had to say. She thanked God that her son was still alive and I added that we have to make the best of each day.

The exchange wasn’t about the coffee, it was about listening to someone unburden herself. It was validating the fact that she was not alone. It was the reassurance that she was doing the best she could in the circumstances.

We are all channels of hope, change, love and compassion. We are transporters of burdens. We transport them to others to process and repackage when we need assistance to understand them.

In deciphering our burdens, we understand how valuable life is and how we each play a part in the big picture.

What role do you think you play in the big picture?

"What role do you think you play in the big picture?"

I feel my role is to portray situations that challenge people, as clearly as possible, and provide them with "fishing-gear" so they can find their own answers to their life-issues...

Alex,

I love the analogy of "fishing gear."

It reminds me of an old saying, "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day."

It is wonderful that you were open and available for these people. We all play a different role than that which we assume we play. With awareness we come to realize this to be true and we grow in the lessons that we are exposed to.

Hello Alexys,

In the big picture, roles are always changing. Do the needful is my role. Sometimes leader, sometimes follower, always lover. :D

What an awesome post with such a great message. I've been in your shoes before, where during the course of a day, I was directed to serve as a channel for others. Just like you, everywhere I went people came up to me and started talking; mostly about very immediate types of needs (I loaned one woman my cell phone, gave directions to a couple who were lost, and helped another woman figure out a postage machine). I laughed because it's as if the Universe chose me to be the helper of lost souls that day, serving those in need.
Your stories were incredible, though --- and I love how awake you are to what happens around you. The fact you knew you were being used to offer comfort, or insight, or spread open-mindedness.
Very cool!

Hello Lady A :D!

Aww, such a cute cow: I loved this image!

"What’s an honest face anyway? Is it one that promises to tell the truth or one that promises to listen to your truth?" - It is one that promises to listen to your truth.

Alexys, once again it is all about being attentive to the Divine calling/signs. You listen when the Angels tell you to offer a bit of your time and love to people - God bless you!

There are people in the world designed to listen to others and offer the right word, or simply a smile, at the right moment. I respect these individuals, and pray for them everyday (so that they can fulfil their mission in the best way possible).

"What role do you think you play in the big picture?" - this is a good question...well, I think my role in the big picture is to listen to people. I do not seek to offer advice, but people always look for that in me (I don't know why). I listen and I keep what people tell me to myself (I don't share with others).

Lady A, superb post: thank you so much for this delight (not only to the intellect but mainly to the soul) *bowing*!

Being there for others Cheers

Your post today reminds readers that initial reactions toward you are often a pretext that opens the door for people to unburden their hearts. Thanks for this very timely and appropriate reminder.

Alex,

Right back at cha!

Alexys Fairfield 9/08/2009 11:19 AM

Mark,

Awareness keeps us on our toes and open to various roles throughout life. Thanks for your thoughts.

Alexys Fairfield 9/08/2009 11:20 AM

Miruh,

You can't go wrong with the lover role. That won't ever change and it will bring about positive results.

Alexys Fairfield 9/08/2009 11:26 AM

Megan,

I used to think that the role was exhausting. Now I just stand back and let positive energy surround them. I love the way the universe uses me. My role is different each time and I never have to change costumes. ;D

Thanks for sharing your stories.

Max,

"Aww, such a cute cow: I loved this image!"

This cow has attitude doesn't she? LOL.

"Alexys, once again it is all about being attentive to the Divine calling/signs. You listen when the Angels tell you to offer a bit of your time and love to people - God bless you!"

Thank you my dear.

"There are people in the world designed to listen to others and offer the right word, or simply a smile, at the right moment. I respect these individuals, and pray for them everyday (so that they can fulfil their mission in the best way possible)."

True. So many people are channels, yet few are aware of it. Wouldn't it be great if we all knew our role and just did it without complaining?

"...my role in the big picture is to listen to people. I do not seek to offer advice, but people always look for that in me (I don't know why)."

I hear you. It is a tremendous service to listen. Imagine if everyone we saw glued to their cellphone would just hang up and listen to the person in front of them, next to them, etc. I find that people are looking for guidance and there is a fine line between guidance and advice. For instance if someone wants to know what type of eggs to get, we can guide them over to the egg department and they can choose the ones they want. That's how I look at advice. I don't like to tell people what to do, but give them options.

"I listen and I keep what people tell me to myself (I don't share with others)."

Also very important. I usually throw in a silent blessings too, especially if the person is distraught.

"Lady A, superb post: thank you so much for this delight (not only to the intellect but mainly to the soul) *bowing*!"

Thank you. You are too kind.

Open Channel Cheers!

Liara,

How ever long I am a vehicle, I will be there to unburden the soul of those in need. Perhaps I was a priest in a past life and I am used to the confessional. Whatever the reason, we can all use a bit of customer service sometimes.

Max Coutinho 9/09/2009 9:31 AM

Lady A,

"This cow has attitude doesn't she? LOL."

LOL LOL LOL LOL...indeed, the cow has attitude LOL *nodding*...

"Thank you my dear."

Don't mention it ;).

"True. So many people are channels, yet few are aware of it. Wouldn't it be great if we all knew our role and just did it without complaining?"

Very few indeed. lol humans like to complain (I don't know why); but yes, it would be great if everybody knew their proper role.

"Imagine if everyone we saw glued to their cellphone would just hang up and listen to the person in front of them, next to them, etc."

LOL you really detest cellphones, eh? You are worse than me.
But you are right, it would be great if people would dedicate some time to the person in front of (or next to) them.
However, if we tell them this they will say that they are helping, or listening to someone on the other side of the phone/cellphone *shrugging*.

"I find that people are looking for guidance and there is a fine line between guidance and advice. For instance if someone wants to know what type of eggs to get, we can guide them over to the egg department and they can choose the ones they want. That's how I look at advice. I don't like to tell people what to do, but give them options."

This is a fine example; and yes, you are right (now that I think of it). But most people that come to me want me to tell them what type of eggs to get (which is something that confuses me a bit, cause how can I do such a thing?), but again perhaps it is a test from the Divine to see how vain I am...we never know *nodding*.

"Also very important. I usually throw in a silent blessings too, especially if the person is distraught."

*nodding in agreement*...
I wish more people would think of themselves as being someone's angel. If we all had this thought in mind we would be able to help more people, perhaps they wouldn't feel so alone.

"Thank you. You are too kind."

You are welcome :D! Aahh, *nearly blushing*...thank you *bowing*.

Spiritual Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 9/09/2009 11:44 AM

Max,

"LOL you really detest cellphones, eh? You are worse than me."

It's not that I detest them (I think they are marvelous devices). I detest people's attachment to them and how they have become so ingrained into their lives. People just don't pay attention. I see them on cellphones when they are driving cars, bicycles, trains (a train engineer killed 47 people when he derailed a train because he was text messaging). Then I see children, ages 8 and up with cellphones emulating their parents. I call the state of divided attention, 'The Cellphone Consciousness.' People also pay a fortune for a bad connection and bad service. In a way it is like accepting an abusive partner. Because cellphones are replacing partners.

"But you are right, it would be great if people would dedicate some time to the person in front of (or next to) them."

That's it in a nutshell.

"However, if we tell them this they will say that they are helping, or listening to someone on the other side of the phone/cellphone *shrugging*."

Sign of a cellphone addiction.

"This is a fine example; and yes, you are right (now that I think of it). But most people that come to me want me to tell them what type of eggs to get (which is something that confuses me a bit, cause how can I do such a thing?), but again perhaps it is a test from the Divine to see how vain I am...we never know *nodding*."

When people ask me what kind of "eggs" should they get, sometimes I tell them - - and of course if it doesn't work out to their liking, they will blame me; to which I will respond, 'Why didn't you just pick them out yourself then?'

"I wish more people would think of themselves as being someone's angel. If we all had this thought in mind we would be able to help more people, perhaps they wouldn't feel so alone."

I know more people should be angels like us. ;D

Angel Cheers!

It reminds me of the vow of the Bodhitsattva: "As long as space remains, as long as sentient beings remain, until then, may I too remain, to dispel the miseries of the world".

Emerging...,

Thank you for sharing this most heartfelt quote. I appreciate it's depth, beauty and sincerity.
