No Strength In Numbness

There is no strength in numbness. Nothing in it except bleak emptiness. Yet so many people prolifically pop painkillers, or ingest other drugs, drown their sorrows in alcohol, attach themselves to devious vices so they won’t feel what’s going on.

We are human beings with feelings that need to be felt, that’s why them call them feelings. So why do we insist on not feeling? It’s not so much the numbness as it is the desire to be numb. What are we afraid of?

Feelings are messages. Our body is attempting to get our attention by kicking us from the inside and when we ignore it, the kick doesn’t go away, it gets bigger. We don’t want to hear it, so we continue to anesthetize, thinking that if we can’t hear it, we can’t feel it and we don’t have to correct it.

We are all fitted with emotions, hankerings and dreams, interspersed with bouts of highs and lows. There is so much laid out for us in the feast of life and if we are numb, we will never drink from the golden chalice or devour the delicacies of our feelings.

Throughout our lives, we will have darkness and light; we will lose ourselves, find ourselves, reinvent ourselves, go through many transformations before we find ourselves again. Our lives will be complicated, our lives will be easy.

We will do stupid things, hurtful things; we will fight when we don’t have to and give up when we should have fought. Our ego will complain that we don’t spend enough time with it. We will placate it until it pushes us further away from everyone before we send it packing. We will be revered, we will be reviled. We will have marvelous proud moments and wretched regrettable moments.

We are slaves of lust; dreams of passion, works in progress, products of our environment, results of our consciousness. We are gluttons for corporeality, vanity, hedonism, and egotism; the more we have, the more we want. The more we get, the less we have.

We are covered in a mountain of matter that doesn’t matter; buried in emotional debt and ethical bankruptcy. We are technological polyglots speaking in staccato with our heads bowed to read the text ticker tape of the future ‘technologentsia,’ bound to our hand-held devices trying to repair the disconnect but still coming up numb. And yet we still don’t know how to speak.

We need to start feeling, start thinking, then stop, look and listen to our lives. Numbness is a waking death. It is no way to live. We can survive by our ability to love and cherish the life we have. Even though it may not be something we particularly like, it was chosen for us and we have to do the best that we can. We have to do our best and never lose our ability to love.

Just say no to numbness. Wake up to yourself. Wake up to life. Wake up to your feelings. Wake up to love.

What can we do to stop numbness?

Awesome post, Alexys! The first step in ending numbness is to acknowledge whatever painful truth is ultimately behind it... and resolve to live with it, regardless of how difficult that may be. We have stop hiding from ourselves and the world and instead, embrace life and become an active participant in this game. As you say: Wake up.

Hi Felicitas,

I know it's difficult for people to resolve their inner turmoils and they don't realize that they make them more difficult by pushing them down. The way to combat them is through love of self. Once we can do that, then we will want to be awake. Thanks for sharing.

Very compelling, passionate post, Alexys.
One of your best.

The quote about being the change that we want to see in the world comes to mind when I read this. From my angle in life, the things that you see in humanity become reinforced by becoming triggered by them. To see the world change, we need to just pay attention to our dream and let the negative stuff just fall to the side by not believing in it anymore. When everyone is occupied by their passions or love, then the unused will be recycled.

Wow, that's phenomenal! I read it, and felt the power from which it was written. That seemed almost channeled---was it?
I just sent it to a friend, too, because I think your message today is one that could benefit thousands of people. It certainly stirred something in me... I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Why do we run? What are we running from?
Feelings. Raw feelings.
Realness.

Thank you, Alexys!

Hi Bern,

Agreed, we have to be the change, but we also have to want to change. I am all for being occupied by self reflection, dream manifesting and watching the nuances change us from within.

Hi Megan,

It was channeled from my spirit. ;D

Some words resonate with a higher vibration and they just fly off the keyboard. Feelings are good, aren't they? No need to run and hide. If we face them with love, we can handle anything. Thank you for your lovely feelings.

Lady A!

Happy Wednesday!! :D

I couldn't stop reading this post (so I had to wait until I finished it to comment): it is that beautifully crafted! *applauding*

"What are we afraid of?" - that is the question: what are people afraid of? Face the music, people...just face the music and love it! Life is beautiful and if we accept it as it presents to us (and specially, if we accept ourselves), I guarantee that pills will never be taken again.

"We are all fitted with emotions, hankerings and dreams, interspersed with bouts of highs and lows." - absolutely!! ^5

"We will have marvelous proud moments and wretched regrettable moments." - and this sentence of yours should be the 5th Noble Truth! Right on!!

"We are gluttons for corporeality, vanity, hedonism, and egotism; the more we have, the more we want. The more we get, the less we have." - this is the finest explanation of the Buddhist origin of dukkha (pain) - wants, desires. Very good, Lady A :D!

"We are covered in a mountain of matter that doesn’t matter; (...)" - this whole section is intellectually sexy. But I'd like to comment on this particular sentence...people should let go. They should not be attached to matter, for matter stays behind when we leave our body (it means little). Matter is a tool to evolution, nothing more than that (many times we are tested through the abundance of matter or the lack of it: how do we cope; do we cope at all?).

"Just say no to numbness. Wake up to yourself. Wake up to life. Wake up to your feelings. Wake up to love." - No Numbness! Good Morning, Max! Good Morning feelings!! Hi, Love *kiss*!

What can be done to stop numbness? Let's see...seek to know yourself, then others; seek to accept yourself, then others; seek to accept life and be happy.

Lady A, oustanding...simply outstanding! :D

No to Numbness Cheers

Hi Max,

Happy Wednesday darling.

"I couldn't stop reading this post (so I had to wait until I finished it to comment): it is that beautifully crafted! *applauding*"

Thank you.

"Face the music, people...just face the music and love it! Life is beautiful and if we accept it as it presents to us (and specially, if we accept ourselves), I guarantee that pills will never be taken again."

You said it. I wish they would understand that. It takes facing the music to face oneself.

"...and this sentence of yours should be the 5th Noble Truth! Right on!!"

You are too kind. Thank you.

"...this is the finest explanation of the Buddhist origin of dukkha (pain) - wants, desires. Very good, Lady A :D!"

Thanks again.

"...people should let go. They should not be attached to matter, for matter stays behind when we leave our body (it means little). Matter is a tool to evolution, nothing more than that (many times we are tested through the abundance of matter or the lack of it..."

Those are the tests of life that will keep repeating until we get it right - or come back and start all over again.

"..seek to know yourself, then others; seek to accept yourself, then others; seek to accept life and be happy."

Beautiful. Thanks for all of your input and passion my friend. Always appreciated.

Alive & Kicking Cheers!

Hi Lady A,

"Thank you."

You are most welcome :D!

"It takes facing the music to face oneself."

Absolutely!!

"You are too kind. Thank you."

None of that: I only spoke what I thought to be right. You are welcome, darling :D!

"Thanks again."

^5!

"Those are the tests of life that will keep repeating until we get it right - or come back and start all over again."

Yes, that is exactly it!

"Beautiful. Thanks for all of your input and passion my friend. Always appreciated."

*Bowing* thank you. Aaah, it is a pleasure to comment your texts (they do bring out the best in my brain) :D!

Don't You Forget About me Cheers
