Learning From Mistakes

Why is it so hard for people to admit they make mistakes? Just forming the words, “I was wrong,” is a stretch.

The reason mistakes are called mistakes is because they not intentional. A mistake is usually committed in error of action, calculation, or judgment because of insufficient knowledge without knowing the outcome.

If you knew the outcome of the mistake, would you still have made it? Probably because you have to make mistakes in order to grow sufficiently. If no one made mistakes, then no one would grow.

If no one grew then they would be stuck in the same predicament and wouldn’t be able to shake off the mortal coil.

Making mistakes is part of our experience here on earth. Giving people room to make mistakes is giving yourself room to make mistakes.

If you judge people because they make too many mistakes, then you are not focusing on learning from their mistakes. While it is true that we learn from our own mistakes, we also learn from the mistakes of others.

If you learn from mistakes then you know that mistakes are your best teachers.

Accepting that people make mistakes and will always make mistakes helps you to forgive and move on to higher regions in your heart and soul and that’s a place you can always dwell.

It often comes down to the person who is asserting the other has made an error. If that first one is always doing it and always assumes he/she is right, then the second will never concede.

There's a lot of power gaming going on with the simple question - why can't people admit mistakes? There's also loss of job, reputation etc.

Hi James,

I had a line to your point but I deleted it in editing. I couldn't agree with you more. Thanks for your acumen.

Mistakes...I've made a few, too few to remember ....

Or was that regrets?

Thanks for your supportive comment on my blog, Alexys. xo

Hi Uber,

"Regrets I've had a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way..."

That song is so perfect for you. I could see you, Sinatra and KISS singing it.

Thanks for your continued support.
